Apparently, for some people, content just isn’t showing up.

To add to the frustration, if you’ve played through Bring Down the Sky then that custom content is hanging out on your hardware and in your game and the only way to to get Pinnacle Station to work is to kill Bring Down the Sky and then reinstall it.

With six pages of complaints about the DLC, it almost makes me happy that I don’t have the game…and I say almost because I’m still a bit bitter that Mass Effect wasn’t released to the PS3.

Duran Duran On Your Wii Rock Band

I did not see this coming. Mass Effect’s “Bring Down the Sky” downloadable content was released the other day and I didn’t even notice. Best of all, the DLC is free. You know how it’s like with me and free stuff. Then again, everyone loves free stuff, especially when they’re related to video games.

Obviously, the next step is to download this free content. I’m getting it as I type this entry.

For those who have no idea what I’m babbling about, listen well. Mass Effect is a role-playing game developed by Bioware, and it’s fantastic. Its gameplay is quite different from the previous Bioware games because this time, the action is in real time.

In a nutshell, Mass Effect is a sci-fi RPG/third-person shooter with tons of dialogue.

Bring Down the Sky expands the Mass Effect game with a new alien race, new achievements, a new planet to visit, and around 90 minutes of additional game time. Watch out for a commentary on the DLC soon.

Mass Effect DLC brings down the sky

Remember the free expansion (a.k.a. “Fan Pack”) for Rainbow Six Vegas 2? If you’ve wondered about the little details that would come with the update but are too lazy to read the miniscule explanation, then look no further. Ubisoft, the game’s developer and publisher, has created a video that explains all the little details.

The Fan Pack will be available via the Xbox Live Marketplace, PlayStation Network, and Ubisoft’s website this coming July.

Trailer gives details on free Rainbow Six Vegas 2 DLC

Why does PC gaming rock? Because you get your downloadable content for free. According to Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling at IAMfourzerotwo, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s Variety map pack is being sponsored by graphics card maker Nvidia. The free DLC will be available for keyboard/mouse jockeys on June 5th.

Variety will include the following maps: Broadcast, Chinatown, Killhouse, and Creek. Bowling added that the 1.6 patch for the PC version of CoD4 would also be coming out the same day. Among other things, the patch will:

• Add support for the new Variety maps; and
• Fix a server crash exploit recently reported by the CoD4 community;

I find it funny that the cheaper version of Call of Duty 4 is getting its DLC for free, while the more expensive console counterparts have to cough up some cash just to get the new maps.

Call of Duty 4 DLC to hit PCs for free

Here’s something that could slip by your radar: Eidos said it will release four new downloadable maps for the Fragile Alliance multiplayer in Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. Like anything I enjoy downloading, the DLC will be free on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Strangely, there was no mention if the free goodies would be available for the PC.

The maps will be released in one pack entitled “The Dope Bag.” The press release gave a brief description of each map:

Take on local dope dealers and the Russian mafia at a construction site in “Clean Cut,” clash with the Yakuza in Tokyo in “Hooker’s Trail,” raid a drug baron’s mansion in a Venezuelan jungle in “Flying High” and ambush General Fuentes’ military convoy in the streets of Havana to steal the gold hidden in his vehicles in “Hasta La Vista.”

Up to eight players can team up in Kane & Lynch’s multiplayer against police or various enemies in a series of heist scenarios. The objective is to steal the bounty and make it to a getaway point. The winner is the player who escapes with the most loot.

If you recall ex-GameSpot editor Jeff Gerstmann’s video review, Kane & Lynch’s multiplayer is the “neatest” idea the game has to offer. This DLC would hopefully make up for the single player element’s sorry state.

When is this DLC coming out? You won’t have to wait long. “The Dope Bag” is set for release on April 17th.

Kane & Lynch gets free DLC

This map just might seal the deal for me since it’s not available in the single-player campaign. The Creek map looks huge and may encourage snipers to camp, but like Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling explained, certain shortcuts would keep snipers in check.

Broadcast may look familiar if you’ve bothered to play the single player game (it’s the TV station). The map comes with a twist though—there are seven or eight entrances to the station. What’s more, everything other than the TV room is “redone.” What does that mean? I have no idea. Best way to find out is to get the DLC–if you’re willing to spend for it.

Like the Legendary maps, you have to shell out 800 MS points (same price at PSN) for the new DLC. Unlike Legendary, Variety comes with four maps.

Watch interviews on CoD4 Variety DLC

To download the maps, just press start in Halo 3 and select “Marketplace.” While two maps are remakes (Blackout from Halo 2 and Avalanche from Combat Evolved), they look as fantastic as they could be thanks to “next-gen” visuals.

Question is: do you want the map pack so bad that you’d pay for it? You can just wait until it’s released free several months later. However, people are probably waiting and stoked for the next DLC by that time, and may eventually forget about these maps.

Trailer for Halo 3 Legendary map pack is out

Do any of you spend for downloadable map packs? There’s the “Legendary” map pack for Halo 3 coming out in a couple of weeks but it would cost you 800 points. This is equivalent to $10 if you live in the U.S., but if you’re based someplace else, you can consult this table for the corresponding cost. If you’d rather hold on to your $10 and wait for free DLC, then you’re in luck.

Halo 3’s Heroic map pack, which was first introduced last December, will be available for free on Xbox Live starting March 25th. Want to see some highlights of the free DLC? Watch the video after the jump.

Not-so-new Halo 3 map pack is available for free download

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 has new downloadable content, and it’s called the Co-op Collection. If you own an Xbox 360, then you’re in luck because the package seems to be available for that console only. The DLC comes with a new co-op campaign and nine maps, seven of which are from previous Ghost Recon games. That means the other two are new.

This DLC is available via the Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 Microsoft points. There are also nine new achievements available, totaling 125 achievement points.

By the way, there’s more. The “more guns pack” is a free DLC that includes seven additional weapons to be used in the single player quick mission mode in GRAW 2.

I haven’t checked PSN for this one, but I’ve a bad feeling it’s not there.
