Angel Villalona Charged with Murder

Angel Villalona, a highly regarded prospect for the San Francisco Giants, has been charged with murder in his home country of the Dominican Republic. The 19-year-old played at Class A San Jose for the Giants this season.
The alleged murder took place at a bar in the Dominican Republic city of La Romana. In a shooting, 25-year-old Mario Felix de Jesus Velete was killed. If convicted of murder, Villalona could spend 20 years in prison.

Miguel Tejada Finishes Second in Caribbean Series

The Houston Astros’ newly acquired shortstop Miguel Tejada had some early heroics in the Caribbean Series but it turned out not to be enough. His Cibao Eagles ended the tournament in second place, behind eventual winners Licey Tigers.
Tejada earlier in the tournament became the all-time leading homerun hitter in the Caribbean Series. Even though Tejada’s team lost, the loss came against a team also from Tejada’s home country of the Dominican Republic.

Miguel Tejada Suffers First Loss in Caribbean Series

On Monday, two undefeated teams from the Dominican Republic matched up in the Caribbean Series. Miguel Tejada’s team, the Cibao Eagles, fell to the Licey Tigers by a final score of 5-2.
Licey, which is now the last undefeated team in the Caribbean Series, was led by a great pitching performance by Ramon Ortiz. Ortiz, who was last seen at the big league level with the Colorado Rockies, held Cibao scoreless into the seventh inning. Yordany Ramirez, supplied the needed offense for Licey when he hit a two-run homer late in the contest.

Miguel Tejada Stars in Caribbean Series

On Saturday, Miguel Tejada hit two homeruns for the Dominican Republic to become the all-time leading homerun hitter in Caribbean Series history. Tejada, who hit homeruns number 12 and number 13, was acquired from the Baltimore Orioles this offseason and will play shortstop this season for the Houston Astros.
The Caribbean Series is a baseball tournament that lasts approximately six days. Each team plays each other and the team with the most wins at the end of the tournament is named champion.
