Stallworth received his jail sentence after reaching a plea dea on DUI manslaughter. In March, Stallworth hit and killed a pedestrian later identified as Mario Reyes. Tests found that Stallworth’s blood-alcohol level was over the legal limits in the state of Florida.

Currently suspended indefinitely by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, many league experts believe that the 28-year-old wide receiver wil never play in the league again. Last year, he played poorly for the Browns and Cleveland is likely to release him. Once a free agent, it’s expected that few teams will be willing to that the PR hit.

In his career, Stallworth has played for the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots and the Browns after playing college football at Tennessee.

Though Stallworth faced more than 14 years in jail for the charge, pleading guilty will result in a short stint in jail. Once he is released, he will have to follow a number of stipulations and will face probation for the foreseeable future.

The agreement to plead guilty, which was reported by law authorities on Monday, reportedly is what the victim’s family wanted. According to police, Mario Reyes’ family wanted this legal ordeal finished as fast as possible.

Stallworth allegedly had a blood-alcohol level more than 50% higher than the .08 legal limit in the state of Florida. The incident took place in Miami.

The 28-year-old wide receiver is still a member of the Cleveland Browns. However, following this brush with the law, the NFL is sure to suspending for at least a couple games to begin the 2009 NFL season.

Donte Stallworth Agrees to Plead Guilty

To replace the speedy wide receiver, the Browns have gone in a number of different directions. In the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Browns selected two wide receivers: Brian Robiskie of Ohio State and Tim Massaquoi of Georgia. In free agency, Cleveland has signed David Patten and Mike Furrey.

Patten played the last two season with the New Orleans Saints. At 34, Patten could offer experience to an otherwise without receiving corps. Furrey played the last three seasons with the Detroit Lions. In 2006, Furrey collected 98 receptions and more than 1,000 receiving yards while playing in Mike Martz’ high-powered offense.

Browns Preparing for Life After Stallworth?

Stallworth is a wide receiver with the Cleveland Browns, and had a blood-alcohol level of “.126, well above Florida’s legal limit of .08.” If convicted he could spent up to 15 years in prison.

Stallworth came forward right away when the accident happened, and has said that he is “grief-stricken” about the accident. The Browns have him on curfew and the league will review the case on its own since alcohol was involved.

In the state of Florida, the legal blood-alcohol limit is .08. According to multiple reports, Stallworth’s tested at .13. In addition to the DUI manslaughter, Stallworth has been charged with DUI.

With a warrant out for his arrest, Stallworth is expected to surrender to police on Thursday. He’s also expected to be released after posting a six-figure bail.

Prior to last season, Stallworth signed a deal worth $35 million over seven years. On the football field, he was very disappointing in his first season with the Browns. In 11 games, Stallworth was only able to finish with 17 receptions and 170 yards.

While the Browns and NFL haven’t yet punished Stallworth, there’s no doubt that he would face severe punishment – with a suspension all but a given. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has made it a priority to cut down on negative conduct from players.

The charge of DUI manslaughter has a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

The toxicology reports will show whether the Browns wide receiver was intoxicated during an automobile incident that left a pedestrian deceased. The incident, which took place in Florida on March 14th, killed Mario Reyes as he attempted to cross a street.

Last season, Stallworth dealt with injuries for most of the year. In 11 games, he only had 17 receptions for 170 yards and one touchdown. The 28-year-old failed to live up to expectations after the Browns signed him as a free agent following a one-year stint with the New England Patriots.

Multiple media rumors say that Stallworth’s toxicology reports will show that he was above the .08 blood-alcohol threshold in Florida. If that’s the case, he will likely face criminal charges and be suspended from the NFL.

Stallworth with Browns; Potential Charges?

NFL player Donte Stallworth has hit and killed a pedestrian in Florida early Saturday morning. The Cleveland Browns wide receiver was was in his Bentley on “a busy causeway linking Miami and Miami Beach.”

No charges have been filed yet and Stallworth is cooperating fully with authorities.

The man he hit was Mario Reyes, a 59-year old who was rushed to the hospital right after the accident. Yahoo sports says Stallworth was “due a $4.75 million signing bonus Friday.”

It isn’t clear why the team with the highest average ticket prices in the NFL is price-gouging asking people to fork over a bigger chunk of their hard-earned paychecks. We can’t be certain, but here are 5 possible reasons that might explain the jump in prices:
