Here are some highlights from round 2 of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis, TN. Del Potro, Hewitt and Roddick all advanced to the Quarterfinals.
Andy Roddick announced in Memphis that he wouldn’t be competing in Dubai because he doesn’t agree with the decision made denying Shahar Peer her visa.

WTA Fines Dubai Championships Organizers

The WTA has fined Dubai Championships organizers a record-breaking $300,000 on Friday after they denied Israeli player Shahar Peer a visa.
They did compensate Peer and have ensured that her and other Israeli players will not be shut out of any future tournaments in the federation. Their reasoning behind this whole ordeal was the fear that because of the anger against Israel’s recent military offensive in the Gaza Strip, riots would happen during her match.

Others succeed where the King could not
Several others did what Roger Federer could not: they advanced at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Andy Roddick defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero handily in two sets (6-2, 6-4). Rafael Nadal had to come from a set down to defeat Philipp Kohlschreiber and Novak Djokovic easily worked over Marin Cilic in straight sets.
Djokovic voiced what so many others have said, “Roger is starting to lose more and more. Players have started to believe they can win.”
Believing is way more than half the battle. Watch out R.Fed.

Federer Loses in First Round to…Murray?
That’s right, you read it correctly. Andy Murray beat Roger Federer in the first round of the Dubai Championships. Murray came from a set down to beat Federer 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
That is kind of important. More important however was Federer’s words afterwards.
“I don’t think he’s changed his game a whole lot since I played him in the Bangkok final. Not that I’m disappointed but I really would have thought he would have changed it in some ways.”
Umm, Roger? You lost.
