All of this has led me to wonder if we are supposed to be headed towards the altar. She has talked about the possibility of wedding bells but admits that she is totally freaked out at the idea right now.

The divorce rate in this country is astounding. People seem to get married for the silliest reasons or without a whole lot of thought about the important stuff. I have seen many of my friends crash and burn with their wives. I’ve watched lives get torn apart because of cheating or financial issues.

Now I have to wonder if I really want to take the plunge. Ever. I don’t want to change things between myself and my girlfriend when they are so great now. I don’t want to risk making a decision because it seems like the next step we are supposed to take. I’m not sure that I even believe in “forever” when it comes to just one person.

So I have to wonder if I’m the only person out there that wishes there were a third option.

Should I Get Married? Ever?

Okay, I know what you are thinking… but it’s not just about wanting to see strippers. It’s about my best friend enjoying a night out with the guys. If she’s already outlawing it now, what lies ahead in their marriage?

Will basketball games turn into “couples badminton” matches? Will trips to the track now be shopping trips where he is standing outside the dressing room holding her Louis Vuitton purse? Will he soon have to give up his ownership stake in our sports bar? I can only imagine how this will escalate.

His woman has always been a little controlling, but he’s kept her check for the most part. Forbidding the bachelor party crosses the line, right? I mean it’s not about the party; it’s about the big picture.

What say you? If your spouse-to-be didn’t want you to have a bachelor party, would you concede and skip it? Would you have it anyway but skip the nudity? What would you do?

I can understand if a woman doesn’t want her man to have huge silicone breasts pressed into his face while downing glasses of tequila all night long. But what about just a day of golf, followed by some bar hopping?

Oh and before you ask … yes, she’s having a bachelorette party. She’s calling it a “spa day” instead. It consists of all day of pampering at the spa, followed by dinner, champagne, a limo ride and the girls spending the night at a hotel. (Are you telling me this chick isn’t having strippers of her own? Yeah, right.)

The Bachelor Party Argument

I’m just shocked because I didn’t get any warning. You see it was a spur of the moment thing — he doesn’t have a ring for her yet or anything. (I think they are going shopping together for it today. Isn’t that romantic?) He just said that he decided it was time, so he went for it.

All of our friends from grad school are married already. So the two of us were sort of the last of a dying breed. And though I knew this day would come eventually, I wasn’t prepared for it.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy for them. She’s a good woman (and she has a nice ass). But the selfish side of me (Is there another side?) is starting to think of all the things that we won’t be able to do anymore. Rating the eye candy at the bar. Roadtripping to Vegas on a whim. Blowing cash at the track or on strippers. Drinking martinis and smoking cigars til dawn.

I know what you are thinking — I’m too old for this kind of behavior. I get that. We don’t do it all the time. But there are occasions when we let loose and do what we do. I’m just afraid it’s all over. Sucks.

We’ll see how it goes, but this is going to be a definite adjustment.

A Surprise Engagement

Congrats to Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady! They are engaged, and planning a spring wedding.

I’m happy if they are happy. I mean, so what if he left the woman who was pregnant with his son in order to be with Gisele. Right?

So what if he was a total scoundrel by getting involved with Gisele before he broke up with Bridget Moynahan.

Right?

No! No, NOT right. Men who do such things should suffer (at least for a while!). NOT take up with super-hot models before the ink on the pregnancy test of their former/present girlfriend is even dry.

Anywho, Tom popped the question with a “diamond solitaire” according to People. I’m sure Bridget was thrilled for them. I’m sure Bridget and Tom’s son was thrilled (of course he’s just a toddler, and aren’t they always thrilled? Lucky little buggers that they are.)

I’m sure Leo DiCaprio is thrilled, since he and Gisele had an on again/off again thing that lasted years.

Everyone’s thrilled! Okay? (And I might be too…. give me time….)

FOX Sports passes along some Chicago-based dish that injured New England Patriots quarterback—no, we’re not over it, so leave us alone—Tom Brady and supermodel arm charm and bling-seller Gisele Bundchen may soon be swapping vows.

Will they honeymoon with Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson, also rumored to be interested in a walk down the aisle? According to the Chicago-Sun Times (what’s with Chicago and NFL gossip lately?), the Texas twosome was on the bright-and-shiny object prowl at a department store. Simpson, who never stops talking about her boyfriend, allegedly refers to him as her “future husband.”

Wedding Whispers for Gisele and Tom, Simpson and Romo

He has two houses already, but these digs in the Gramercy section of NYC are purportedly the newest addition to his real estate collection. (Other celebrity real estate listings are on that site as well, should you be inclined to see How the Overpaid People in American Culture Live).

So what does Roddick—who’s already fallen victim to the dreaded name blend, he and Brooklyn Decker having been dubbed “Broddick” in some media outlets—have to say about his impending domestic bliss? The Good A-Rod (as opposed to the Evil Empire A-Rod) was so tight-lipped we didn’t learn anything gave an interview to People but clearly prefers talking about tennis rather than his engagement.

Hey Andy, you hooked up with a 20-year-old who makes steamy Sports Illustrated vidoes for YouTube and now she’s going to be the missus. Do you really think the media is going to focus on your tennis?

Where Andy Roddick Beds Brooklyn Decker

Anyway, it’s true: The 25-year-old tennis player snagged Brooklyn Decker, a 20-year-old swimsuit model and decided she’s a keeper. Andy Roddick decided to make his cradle-robbing legal popped the question (”Will you marry me?” and not “You mean you’re not even old enough to drink?”—though you’d be forgiven for guessing the latter). 

And we aren’t kidding about “snagged.” People.com reports that he spotted her in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and had his agent get her number.

We could make some naughty tennis puns about things being “in” and “out” but this is a PG-13 blog. (But if you venture to guess where we’re going with this, who are we to stop you?)
