Detroit Lions Calvin Johnson forgotten in Millen legacy

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Matt Millen destroyed the Detroit Lions. One of his special skills was to pick wide receivers with ultra high draft picks. They are almost all gone, Charles Rodgers, Mike Williams, Roy Williams. Only Calvin Johnson remains out of that group.
Detroit Lions first round pics by picture back to 1985.
There are other Matt Millen 1st rounder’s still with the team. It is actually in day two where Matt Millen and company totally failed.
First rounders that are still with the team in Matt Millen’s eight drafts?

Detroit Lions 80 -1, get your Super Bowl tickets now!

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
80 to 1?
So that is like saying there is a chance, right?
If they play 80 seasons then the Lions would win it all 1 time? One time? Really? That is awesome!
Can they play 80 seasons next year, because we have waited for like forever, you know?
That would only be 1,280 games. That is a lot of Ford Truck ads for the Ford Family. Not that anyone buys a truck anymore with 4 buck per gallon gas.
Jon Kitna will pass in a more balanced attack now that …read more

Detroit Lions Jon Kitna laughs last

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Dwayne White says this victory is this big!
Jon Kitna uttered the immortal words, “We will win 10″.
Asked later, Jon said, “10, yes, but you don’t want to know the number in my mind”.
Ok, just a little paraphrasing going on there, but he did predict 10 then more than 10.
We laughed. You laughed. You laughed more than me. That is a lot of laughing.
Mike Ditka did not laugh. He came out Wednesday with some good words for the Detroit Lions and the ineffable Jon Kitna.

Jon Kitna – are Lions for real? Rod says getting there

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Coach Rod Marinelli believes in Jon Kitna and all of the Lions
Lions fans have waited for 50 years.
50 years and no championships.
50 years is a long time.
We got used to not being a contender. Just give us an occasional playoff berth.
Then we got used to not making the playoffs. Just give us a .500 season.
Then we got used to losing all the time. Just get rid of Matt Millen.
Now we have Jon Kitna, Mike Martz, and Coach Rod Marinelli.
Now we have a victory against the Chicago Bears. …read more

Calvin Johnson joins the predictors

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Squibkick readers with Post Doctorate Lions degrees
They are at it again. The Lions are making predictions.
Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz was asked to comment on Jon Kitna’s prediction of 10 victories this year.
In all, it could be a devastating attack once Johnson assimilates himself. Martz won’t come out and say it, but you see his eyes twinkle when he talks about this group. Ten wins? Maybe Kitna should have gone higher.
“I’m surprised he conceded six games, to be honest with you,” Martz says. “I wouldn’t put a limit on how …read more

Calvin Johnson – and he shall lead them up the mountain

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Drew Stanton (from my MSU Spartans) thinking about those future victories
When your team is 3 – 13, improvement is on the way. You will improve, because 2 – 16 is almost impossible.
Wait a minute; didn’t Oakland go 2 – 16? Yeah, forgot that.
The Lions believe they will be much better, but then haven’t we heard this before, like 25 years in a row?
“I’m so proud my teammates are starting to build that swagger. The old church song says, ‘The searchlight’s on, you can’t hide.’ Once Kitna said that …read more

Jon Kitna makes a 10 win guarantee

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Jon Kitna thinks the Lions might be better this year. They won 3 games last year and Jon thinks they will win around 10 this year.
Better? We are talking drinking rocket fuel here. To go from 3 wins to 10 wins takes…well, maybe a Drew Brees and a Reggie Bush and a whole lot of other stuff.
10 wins?

Shaun Rogers, Big Baby – Oh boy is Coach Marinelli challenged on this one

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Big Baby is in trouble.
No, not the trouble with Marinelli, we will get to that.
Big Baby has been allegedly groping a stripper, but that is not all there is to the story.
We need to back up a little to get some context here.
Your intrepid author grew up a Lions fan. A cruel fate to be sure, but my fate none the less.
Now as a Lions fan, there is little to cheer about from year to year, and if not for having Billy Sims followed by Barry Sanders, then thousands …read more

Brady Quinn & JaMarcus Russell – if you can get a quarterback, take one

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Brady says – You need me more than you think. If you can actually think.
We laugh about it. We joke about it. We even wonder about it, but how can the Raiders, Lions, and Browns be so pathetic?
Just today, two people passed my cubicle and one said, “Is he still alive?”
The other one said, “Yeah, maybe we ought to up his dosage.”
No, wait a minute, didn’t mean to mention that.
Another group went by, going on and on about how stupid bad teams are at drafting. If …read more

Coach Rod Marinelli – Lions hype or hope, who knows, but character for sure!

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Sit down, relax, tell me about your character and how much you love football
Your intrepid author is enjoying a fantastic off season.
Those of you lucky fans that root for the Colts, Pats, Chargers, Eagles, Bears, or any other winning or hopeful team, do not understand the mentality of a die hard Lions fan.
You see the off season is our on season. It all leads up to the draft.
How fantastic is it that the news is all about the Lions and what they will do? Not that they will …read more
