Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is just one of the many games in my backlog list. I recently resumed my adventure in the PC shooter recently and got snagged with a particularly tricky boss fight. I love every moment of it, but I’m still clueless as to how this foe can be taken down.
I’m supposed to make my way to the spaceport hangar and meet up with a certain character, but a huge armored guard is in my way. This isn’t your typical armored suit, however.

If you’ve played Chronicles of Riddick, then you probably know how to take one of the “regular” armored suits down. All you have to do is use either a couple of grenades or a minigun to pierce through the shell.

This bigger enemy is resistant to both grenades and miniguns. There are several shotgun shells that can be picked up in the area, but they don’t seem to work. I’ve tried distracting the enemy and shoot the armor’s back, but to no avail.

As of this writing, I have no idea how to defeat this behemoth. If you do know how, you’re welcome to laugh at my inability to beat this stage boss all you want, but please keep off the spoilers.

I’ve discussed previously how awesome I think Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is. That said, the game still isn’t perfect. If I must nitpick, then I must take issue with its rather questionable collision detection.
In this age of ragdoll physics, issues like limbs jutting through solid surfaces have become a thing of the past. Apparently, the advancement doesn’t apply in Chronicles of Riddick. Enemy soldiers (or parts of them) pass through walls, doors, crates, or any solid object you can think of.
Heck, even Riddick is guilty of phasing through solid surfaces. Since you can see his feet in [...]
Post from: EveryJoe

Heck, even Riddick is guilty of phasing through solid surfaces. Since you can see his feet in first-person, said limbs have a tendency to bury themselves in a lot of compromising instances.

What a week. It’s been a mad rush as reunions, parties, and even more reunions pile up our schedule. Who said the holidays are the best time for games anyway? Not for this blogger, at least.
As the year comes to a close, once can’t help but reflect on the astounding shooters we went through the past 12 months, and the ones that we’re smacking our lips for as it comes out next year. Yes, 2007 is indeed the year of the FPS.

The year has been so crowded with marquee FPSes it can be tricky to decide which one we’re pining most for.

And that’s why I want to ask you: what is your most-coveted FPS?

When I say most-coveted, I mean the game you want under your Christmas tree. It’s something you don’t own yet; something you’re just aching to get but for some strange reason, you still don’t own. Don’t limit yourself to 2007 for this one—I know there just way too many that you’ve passed up so now is your time to speak up.

My vote is on Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay. Sadly, I can’t find this game on sale. I’ve looked everywhere and the local retailers are still selling this game at PHP 1,000+ to PHP 1,700+ (roughly $23 to $41) on the PC.

What’s your vote for most-coveted FPS?

Fast forward to present day. Sometime last week, it was announced that EfBB was being remade for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The title will be The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Starbreeze Studios, the original developer, is back at the helm.

<o> </o>

According to Starbreeze in an interview, they decided to do a remake because Microsoft wasn’t able to make EfBB backward compatible with the Xbox 360. Perhaps an even more compelling reason is Starbreeze wanted to aim EfBB at a wider audience before making a sequel (i.e. make even more money for practically the same game).

<o> </o>

We found some new screenies for the game in Jeux France, and decided to share them with Riddick’s adoring public. Enjoy.
