Reposting this to hopefully get a solution from someone out there if you have one. Just leave a comment. I’ve continued looking but still haven’t found anything that makes a difference. I’ve been disabling and re-enabling extensions to see if that might be the culprit, but I haven’t had any success. That makes sense as well since I haven’t made any changes along those lines since everything seemed to be working fine.

Earlier commenter said it may be a Google Labs issue. That would be annoying that one of Google’s own apps is causing the problem. Then they’d start sounding a lot like Microsoft does sometimes!

I’m still using Firefox as my browser of choice. I still say that the main reason I stay with Firefox is because of all of the plugins and extensions that are available on this platform. Hopefully IE8 will get more activity from developers and Microsoft will keep improving this browser. Competition is good for everyone. Let’s hope both of these browsers keep pushing each other.

The topic of discussion is what we may have to look forward to in IE8. From the looks of it, it appears that most of the changes are going to be under the hood and focused more towards the development community.
Microsoft may be looking for developers to “opt-in” for a more standards compliant development plan using IE. More support for CSS 2.1, more open API’s for new extensions from the community.

The other topic of discussion was how long we may have to wait for the next iteration of the world’s most popular browser. Many people would like for IE to be updated through rolling updates as ongoing patches and deployment releases. Microsoft would prefer to stick to a 12-24 month release schedule as anything more frequent would make it too much of a “moving target”.

Hmmm, moving target? Seems to me that might be a better avenue to go down if people are always wanting to take a shot at you?

They copied IE7’s option of the close box within the tab itself
Are they calling extensions add-ons now like IE7? Why?

In the comments of my last post about screen real estate comparisons between Firefox and the new IE7, Robert Aitchison wanted me to compare the two without all the 3rd party toolbars installed.

How about the copmparison without all the 3rd party toolbars loaded?, or alteas cut it down to one.

So, I decided to do an additional little comparison without the toolbars. As you can see, IE7 still has a significant savings over Firefox. Internet Explorer 7 is actually 35% smaller than Firefox by comparison.

As noted in some of the other comments though, the biggest gap right now between the two is going to be the availability and diversity of extensions/add-ons. Some of those I’m really missing. The Firefox extensions that I’ve got installed and am using are:

IE Tab (Not needed)

CoLT (really miss this)

PDF Download

Print It (Not needed anymore)

CoComment

Performancing

DownThemAll

As you can see, he was also concerned about there not being a menu bar. I really haven’t missed it personally. How about you?

Let me know in the comments if you use and miss the menu bar and what add-ons are must haves for IE7.
