Kayak sinking?
Once named the best travel search engine, Kayak has suffered a serious blow with the announcement that American Airlines is pulling its listings from the popular travel site. Apparently American is considering ditching Orbitz as well, according to this article from TechCrunch.
Although the airlines aren’t thrilled about the booking fees which are associated with any of the popular online search sites, American was particularly annoyed with Kayak. More on dumb airlines
Apparently I’m not the only one who doesn’t understand the airlines. Check out this post from Flyawaycafe for more on fees and the overall stupidity of the airlines. It seems the airlines have never really figured out what to do since the dissolution of the CAB back in the 1970s – since then, those which haven’t failed outright (and there are a lot of them) spend much of their time flirting with bankruptcy or a merger with an airline which is just going into or coming out of bankruptcy.
