CNET Reviews RSS Readers

CNet has reviewed some of the most populair RSS readers: Bloglines, Rojo, Google Reader, FeedDemon and Newsgator Inbox 2.6 for Outlook. Review of Webbased FeedReaders

TechCrunch (uhh, i mean Frank Gruber) examined nine web-based feed readers (Attensa Online, Bloglines, FeedLounge, Google Reader, Gritwire, News Alloy, NewsGator Online, Pluck Web Edition, Rojo).
Not much of a shock here, Google Reader and FeedLounge are the fastest in performace. Bloglines and Rojo are the best choice for a feature rich application. Except none seem to approach the speed and agility of the desktop based readers like NetNewsWire and FeedDemon (surprise;).
Nice chart though:

Touchstone attention management

Steve Rubel wrote about Touchstone this week. The application should be some sort of attention management engine, which streams RSS feeds to your desktop using a set of rules as a filter. This should allow you to customize what’s important when. The new FeedDemon 2.0 does the same thing and the beta of NetNewswire also sorts feeds by attention. TiVO does the same for TV… we’re getting there…

Newsgator coming through

NewsGator has been very busy! Lately they’ve been working with Vista and checking out the mobile market. Now they are releasing NewsGator Inbox 2.6 (formerly NewsGator Outlook Edition) and FeedDemon 2.0, finally;) The release marks the first major update of the product since NewsGator’s acquisition of FeedDemon developer Bradbury Software in May of 2005. The new products have an enhanced synchronization with the NewsGator Online platform. This online platform holds all your RSS subscriptions so you can use it in your office, at home or on the go!

FeedDemon 2.0

Nick Bradbury announces FeedDemon 2.0 Beta 1 on his blog. They have decided to skip FeedDemon 1.6 and go straight to version 2.0, which will be a free upgrade for all FeedDemon customers.
It’s a pre-release but v2 should make it easier for new users to get started, and make it easier for power users to deal with information overload! There’s a new “subscription overview” which provides a summary of your subscriptions – including which ones you pay the most and least attention to. Looks good!
Download it here.
