The usual Windows Notedpad is just a plain textarea where you just type your text.  But what if Notepad 2008 is more like the Office 2007 interface now, with the ever famous Ribbon UI. Check this out.

When creating a document, there are information saved as a metadata with the file. This metadata usually includes the author name, creation date and edits, source, company, etc. These might be private information that may be disclosed when the file is shared. Well, before sending out and sharing your documents such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint, be sure to check it with Metadata Analyzer. It will give you a brief background of what hidden information might be revealed to your reciepents.

Did you recently reformatted you PC? Or just trying to reinstall MS Office and can’t find the CD where the product key sticker is attached? ProduKey could help you recover that lost product key. Actually, it will not only display your product key but also the CD-Key of MS-Office, Windows, Exchange Server, and SQL Server that are installed on the computer.

Google hosts a set of APIs called GData that provide a simple way of writing data on the web. The GData APIs don’t do much, but they can be used to publish data to any Google web service that supports the GData format. Luckily, Google Docs is one of those services.

Trying out OpenGoo, the Open Source Web Office

Yup, another web office here – the OpenGoo.
OpenGoo or  Open Source Web Office is an open source web office which allows you create, publish, share and collaborate documents. Currently, it allows you to create text documents, spreadsheets (coming soon), presentations, Task Lists, E-mails, Calendars, Web Links, and Contacts.

OpenGoo is a server application which requires you to install a localhost server like XAMP or WAMP. Or, if you want to install it in a server, you need to have Apache 2.0+,  PHP 5.0+ (5.2+ recommended), and MySQL 4.1+ with InnoDB support.

Plutext

Plutext

Another product showcased during the Office 2.0 Conference 2008 was the Plutext. Currently under development, Plutext is an open-source project that will bring simultaneous editing  and collaboration with MS Word documents. This is a plugin installed to MS Word and will be available under the “Review” tab.
There are building 2 distinct solutions:

a system to support simultaneous editing of Word documents
a cross platform WYSIWYG editor for docx Word documents (which you can try right now)

Both solutions rely on docx4j, our package for creating, opening, editing and printing OOXML docx (WordprocessingML) files in Java.

During the Office 2.0 Conference 200, ZoooS LLC introduced a web-based office suite which tries to put OpenOffice.org 3.0 in the web. ZoooS Office comprises of different tools similar to that of OpenOffice.org 3.0. These includes ZoooS Write, ZoooS Spreadsheet, ZoooS Presentation, ZoooS Draw, and the ZoooS database. And accordingly, 80% of its features are similar that of OpenOffice.org 3.0.

Introduced during the Office 2.0 Conference recently, Zoho Docs now allows users manage Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations created using their tools.
