Far Cry 2 map editor shows the big picture
Far Cry 2 is coming with a map editor, but it’s not your ordinary map editor. Normally, such editors, especially those for first-person shooters, are a tad unwieldy. And usually, map editors are released for PC versions of multiplatform games because the console editions don’t have the necessary peripherals (i.e. keyboards and mice) to manipulate such software intuitively.
Based on what we’ve seen from the Far Cry 2 map editor, that might all change. Doubtful that you can create a detailed set piece using an Xbox 360 controller? Watch the clip and it WILL change your mind.

Church of England forgives Sony
Do you still remember the spat between the Church of England and Sony? Let me re-jog your memory: The church alleged that Sony didn’t seek permission for using the Manchester Cathedral as a level in Resistance: Fall of Man, the first good FPS in the PS3.
Well, BBC said the church leaders at Manchester Cathedral have forgiven Sony.
Sony did apologize for using the graphics, but didn’t withdraw Resistance from store shelves. BBC also revealed that after the game didn’t win at the recent BAFTA, the cathedral’s dean remarked “I think some important lessons have been learnt.”
Far Cry 2 ditches old scheme and takes S.T.A.L.K.E.R. approach
It seems Ubisoft has learned its lesson. The French publisher made a research on what made Far Cry cool, and discovered that it was the realistic parts at the beginning of the game (i.e. when you were raiding military camps and using all sorts of strategy to survive) that consumers liked most.
And what’s not to like about it? The enemy soldiers’ AI is eerily good, and the open-ended approach to this tropical paradise made the experience very fresh compared to other linear shooters that came out that year (*cough Doom 3 *cough* Half-Life 2 cough*).
This shooter’s a Haze in the crowd
More and more first-person shooters are coming out and Haze, a PS3 exclusive being developed by Free Radical Design, is just one of them. Have a look at Haze’s jungle gameplay:
Is it just me, or is this game (at least the jungle part) a poor version of Crysis? The video also had a surplus of bloom, so a lot of shiny stuff could be seen as you watch the trailer. Unfortunately, nothing about Haze jumps out at me to set it apart from the dozens of other shooters jostling for our attention.
And yes, the bloom doesn’t help it either.
