Should Tebow’s Ad be Scrapped?

Women’s Media Center, a New York-based group, is protesting a Super Bowl ad that will run during the game and feature Florida quarterback Tim Tebow and his mother. CBS has approved the script, which lasts for 30 seconds (fairly long for a Super Bowl ad), and the center, backed by the National Organization for Women and a bunch of other feminist groups, are not happy, to say the least.
No one knows for sure what the ad says, but critics say that the message is likely one that’s anti-abortion. It’s paid for by Focus on the Family, a Christian Group that …read more

2009-2010 Sugar Bowl Preview

This isn’t the season that Florida wanted.
This isn’t the season Cincinnati expected.
Yet here we are, on New Year’s Eve, the night before Florida and Cincinnati meet one another on the fifty-yard line in the Sugar Bowl.
It’s easy to say that Florida will win this game, but I wouldn’t be so sure of that. The Bearcats deserve to be in this game as much – maybe more – than the Gators. It’s been an uphill battle from the start for them, but they’re coming into the game without a real coach, since Brian Kelly left for Notre Dame. Of course, Florida …read more

Urban Meyer Follows Tebow Out of Florida

We all knew that this would be the last season at Florida for the legendary Tim Tebow, but few people expected the announcement that was made earlier tonight – that head coach Urban Meyer would be leaving after the team’s bowl appearance as well. There was some speculation that he might be interested in the Notre Dame job when it came open, but it seems that Meyer is leaving…just to retire.
Meyer cites health problems as his reason for leaving the world of NCAA football, but I suspect that it is less about fear and more about not wanting to deal …read more

Florida Denied SEC Championship

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout;
But there is no joy in Gainesville — mighty Tebow has struck out.
It was a tragic picture as the clock was winding down at the end of the 2009 SEC Championship game. Tim Tebow watched the clock hit zero, tears running down his cheeks, as Alabama players and coaches began to celebrate. The Crimson Tide outplayed the Gators today to a final score of 32 – 13.

Not only does this mean that Alabama …read more

Alabama: Deserving of the SEC Title Game?

One of the best games of this past weekend was the #3 Alabama – #9 LSU game for the SEC West title. Whoever won the game would go onto the SEC title game at the end of the season, so it was a big deal for both teams…and both teams fought hard for the win. In the end, though, Alabama came out on top, propelled to the win through the efforts of Julio Jones.
The question remains, though – does Alabama deserve a rematch with Florida? There’s no question that team deserves the SEC West title. LSU is the only other …read more

Florida’s Spikes Suspends Himself

The fate of Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes had been up in the air for some time before coach Urban Meyer announced that he’d be suspending the player for the first half of the Vandy game next week. Although no penalty was called during the game, Spikes clearly stuck his hand into the face mask of Washaun Ealey of the Georgia Bulldogs last week.
Here’s the video, in case you haven’t seen it:
The SEC agreed to this punishment, but football fans everywhere have been grumbling that the punishment wasn’t harsh enough. So, Spikes decided to take matters into his own hands. After …read more

2009 Midseason Undefeated and Winless

We’re about at the mid-season point for college football. I always think it’s interesting to see which teams have gone undefeated so far and which teams have yet to win a game. By this time, most teams have had at least ONE tough opponent and at least ONE game where they had a chance to win. Here’s how the lists look this year:
Undefeated:

Alabama
Boise State
Cincinnati
Florida
Iowa
Kansas
South Florida
TCU
Texas

Winless

Ball State
Eastern Michigan
Florida Atlantic
Miami (OH)
New Mexico
Rice
Western Kentucky

Really, I think the big surprises here are that there are no major surprises. Few people would have put Iowa on the undefeated list when predicting records at this point …read more

Tim Tebow Injury Update

By now, you’ve probably seen the footage of Tim Tebow going down yesterday during the game against Kentucky. The sack by Taylor Wyndham was pretty hard, but the real doozy was his head knocking forward off of the leg of another Gator, Marcus Gilbert. Watch the slow motion footage if you want to see what really happens. Here it is again, if you haven’t seen it:
To be clear – as the announcer said, it was a clean hit. It was a hard hit, yes, but the injury came from Tebow’s head bouncing forward off of the leg of another player, …read more

College Football Week Three 2009 in Review

No longer do we have a top ten with perfected records. This week, Oklahoma bust into the number 10 spot with a blemished season. The rest of the AP top 10 are still unmarred after week three:

Florida
Texas
Alabama
Mississippi
Penn State
California
LSU
Boise State
Miami
Oklahoma

What’s significant to note is who is not there anymore. And really, that boils down to my favorite team to bash, USC.
Sorry, USC fans. This was supposed to be an easy week for you. The Trojans took on Washington, and after a week at Ohio State’s horseshoe, everyone thought that this would be a relaxing game. Only Matt Berkley couldn’t start, so …read more

College Football Week Three 2009 Preview

We’re getting to the point where most teams are actually starting to play some real games now. I say “most” because my beloved Penn State is playing Temple this weekend. You know when Temple last beat PSU? 1941. I mean, they haven’t played every year…but still.
I digress. Let’s check out the AP Top 10 this week:

Florida
Texas
USC
Alabama
Mississippi
Penn State (actually, they’re also #5, it was a tie)
BYU
California
LSU
Boise State

All of the top ten teams are still undefeated, but that’s not surprising since many of them had super easy games the past two weeks – or no game at all (Mississippi already had their …read more
