My Opinion on 3 Day Strens
July 7, 2008 by Don Zaegel

BassFan recently reported on the possibility of the FLW Outdoors sanctioned Stren Series reducing it tournaments from a 4 day format to a 3 day format. When I read the report I took notice of the fact that the events would be speculated to go from Thursday to Sunday and change to a Thursday to Saturday schedule. Let me just quickly throw my two cents in on this.
I am not exactly sure why or how the consideration to reduce the day format started. If I had to guess, I would assume that it was an effort to help reduce resource costs on FLW’s part while …read more

After a phenomenal first stop for Stren Series Texas Division on Falcon Lake in it’s inaugural event, the 173 boat field is expecting big numbers in weights to show up at the scales. The expectations are coming after a team tournament last weekend in which 20 sacks were brought in weighing over 20 lbs. and two of them being over 30 lbs, plus favorable forecast weather conditions.
The air temperature at this mornings take off was 50 degrees with highs expected in the mid to high 60’s, cloudy skies, calm winds, and a chance of light rain. Water temps are 55-58 degrees. Sounds …read more

While I guess you can say that this past weekend wasn’t the biggest weekend in all of fishing, it is a big weekend because it marks the launch of the 2008 fishing season with a couple of South Western area Stren Divisions getting underway and many other circuits starting shortly. Here are results from the past weekends Stren Series tournaments.
Stren Series
Texas Division – Falcon Lake, TX: 1st Place Jeremy Guidry 110.02 (New Record for overall cumulative weight in the history of both the Stren Series and the FLW Outdoors as a whole.

Is BASS Re-surging past FLW?
December 2, 2007 by Don Zaegel
If you ask any particular crowd of tournament anglers which circuit is better between BASS and FLW, you will almost always get a one sided answer. Of course the answer will depend on what group of anglers you ask. Regardless, their reply will always be one or the other with no space in between. The best comparison I can think of, is if you go up to an American pick-up truck or hot rod enthusiast and ask him, “Ford or Chevy”? Your answer is going to be that one rules and the other sucks for whatever reason and every now and …read more
FLW Revises Co-Angler Rules
November 27, 2007 by Don Zaegel
I have had this happen many times. I will drive to my spot, catch a bunch of fish and leave little for the co-angler to scrounge over. I have also had it happen the exact opposite where I have driven to my spot and had the co-angler out fish me in my own hole, but typically they only get what you give them. Normally after I have caught a limit I am comfortable with, I will give way for the co-angler to go where he/she wants if they are still in need of fish. I give them a chance …read more
FLW Officially announces “TTT” Re-alignment
October 31, 2007 by Don Zaegel
For Texas and allot of other southwestern anglers, the Texas Tournament Trail (TTT) has been one of the regions most successful and popular tournament trails of choice. Unfortunately for some, the trail will no longer exist in 2008; however, thankfully these anglers are not going to be left wanting (otherwise that would make the FLW recipients of my ”Get Reel” award). I recently wrote of the speculation circulating about the intentions FLW had with the TTT. FLW has officially announced that it will “realign its bass tournament offerings in Texas next season”.
The TTT will be replaced by the newly formed Texas Stren Division which was in operation …read more
FLW Ditches “TTT” Efforts
October 24, 2007 by Don Zaegel
There are not too many states that are able to host a regional level trail and have all the events in a single state. Texas however is the exception. With so many great fisheries abundant throughout the state, Texas recieves it’s fair share of attention from circuits both regional and national. I suppose a state can only handle so much though.
The FLW has announced its intent to discard the Texas Tournament Trail (TTT) for 2008. The TTT has been known by many of the anglers as a competitive trail with affordable entry fees and large payouts. Just what a tournament angler wants …read more
2008 STREN Series Schedule Released
October 16, 2007 by Don Zaegel
It’s back for 2008 and in my opinion they have put together another great schedule for the series. Allot of big bass lakes during the right times of the year.
Since 1998, the FLW has operated the Stren Series with Stren becoming the title sponsor in 2006. The circuit offers the ability for anglers to compete in a minimal travel series with a top payout of $65,000 per qualifier and a chance to fish in the $1 million dollar, no entry fee Stren Series Championship.
For more information about the tournaments, you may call FLW at (270) 252-1000 or visit …read more
