Fred Taylor Injury Update – Ankle Surgery

The New England Patriots received some bad news on Thursday when it was revealed that Fred Taylor needed ankle surgery. To begin the 2009 NFL season, Taylor has been the Patriots best running back. New England didn’t put him on injured reserve, so there’s a chance that Taylor could return later in the season.
In the first four games of the season, Taylor had 45 rushes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. His best game of the season came in Week 3 when he ran for 105 yards and scored a touchdown.

Maurice Jones-Drew Returns to Practice

Maurice Jones-Drew, the starting running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars, has returned to practice. After getting bruising his leg in the team’s final preseason contest, Jones-Drew’s availability in Week 1 wasn’t certain. However, now it appears like he’ll play after he was able to get back on the practice field.
Many NFL experts are expecting big things from Jones-Drew this season. After playing behind Fred Taylor in his first three seasons, Jones-Drew has the starting job all to himself. As a result, he is likely to see many more touches in 2009.
