“Friday Night Lights” Season 3 on DVD

The complete third season of Friday Night Lights is now available on DVD and can I just say how amazing it is that shows come out on DVD so quickly these days?  It really makes catching up so much easier for folks who missed episodes or who want to start watching a new show.
I will confess to not watching this show on a regular basis but it does have a loyal fanbase.  The show follows the life of, Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler), and his family as he coaches high school football team, the Dillon Panthers, and the members of the …read more

Friday Night Lights Gets Renewed

At a time when so many shows are being canceled in favor of reality TV programming, I’m sure the cast and crew (and fans) of NBC’s Friday Night Lights are relieved – the show has been picked up for at least another two seasons, despite the lack of good ratings.  Each season will consist of 13 episodes but they are considering filming it all back-to-back to cut doen on production costs.
In case you haven’t seen it, the drama is about a Texas high school football team.  You can watch full episodes on the NBC website and read through the …read more

Help Best Week Ever Save Friday Night Lights

Tonight is the last episode of the strike-shortened Season 2. I’m a ridiculous amount of episodes behind on TiVo, so I have no idea what’s going on, but I’m fairly certain I can catch up by season 3, if it ever happens. Help it happen by going here and doing whatever these wonderful people tell you to do. What? Need more incentive? Fine. Look, it’s Adrianne Palicki, Minka Kelly, and Connie Britton. Gee, they’re pretty.

If this episode were on ESPN, it would feature a guest appearance by Mark May.  On to the quotes.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Mrs. Coach’s sister, Aunt Shelley, showed up to mess with Mrs. Coach’s head help take care of the baby. The quote is their requisite screaming-girl-greeting. It got more and more depressive
You’re so incredibly talented.  There’s a new addition to the ongoing Julie Taylor – Matt Saracen issue now has a new addition: the jersey chaser! Fun times. It’s pretty evident that Matt and Julie are going to end up back together, but there’s going to be more

Friday Night Lights to be Saved by ESPN, Then Ruined By ESPN?

Friday Night Lights to be Saved by ESPN, Then Ruined By ESPN?

I’ve been down this road before. Arrested Development had all sorts of rumors surrounding it. Showtime was going to pick it up to go with Weeds. HBO would have picked it up if HBO weren’t such uppity jerks about not having other networks “leftovers.” It was even rumored that NBC was going to grab it as a natural compliment for The Office. Of course, none of these things happened and AD went quietly with a four episode mini-marathon opposite the Winter Olympic Opening Ceremonies. It now lives only pleasant memories, DVDs, and references that most people don’t get. (It’s like …read more

Well, I’ve been thinking. I’m pretty sure that an extended writer’s strike would be a death knell for Friday Night Lights. But who knows, the first season’s ratings should have been a death knell as well.
Like your hat. Jason Street’s hat is pretty awesome. I think we’ve seen the last of it, sadly.
Let’s go have some fun.  Ah yes, the requisite “sports are supposed to be fun montage.” It is a necessary step in any coach’s redemption. Whenever the players are too uptight, it’s time to have a play around practice. In Dillon, the fat kids get to touch the …read more

I accidentally deleted last week’s episode from my TiVo, which meant I had to go to NBC.com to catch up for this week. This is a good time to remind you, the reader, that every single episode in the entire series run of Friday Night Lights is available online. Every single episode. Just wanted to remind you of that.
Did you see what happened? He threw it all the way and the other team made a touchdown. Grandma Saracen is like the Tim McCarver of high school football, but this captures pretty well how the Dillon Panthers second game went. (Not …read more

Previously On Friday Night Lights

Last week’s non-homicide related episode of Friday Night Lights was fantastic. I’ll bitch about Landry-on-the-lam soon enough. Before that I have plenty of good story lines to recap from last week, so you’ll be ready for tonight’s episode, “Backfire.” I’ve decided that I want to start including quotes from the episode to introduce my little recaps, this is because these quotes are awesome.
Mrs. Coach: “No, Julie and Matt didn’t break up.” Glen: “Yeah they did. It’s all over the school. It’s huge; everybody’s talking about it.” Ah….Glen the science-teacher-cum-interim-guidance-counselor hilariously reveals that the Taylor parents really have no idea what’s …read more

Previously On Friday Night Lights

Every Friday I’m recapping the previous week’s episode of Friday Night Lights, in a vain attempt to get more viewers. I’ll recap the major story lines, give some predictions, and gripe if necessary. (It’s usually not necessary.)
- This season’s potentially disastrous story line was handled exceptionally well last episode. Instead of the usual cops-searching-the-school all-points-bulletin way that television usually handles a secret killing. Instead, the only cop was Landry’s dad. Him waiting on the sideline during practice was a fantastic “gotcha” from the show. Why did we ever doubt? Instead, the only drama surround Tyra and Landry’s secret has involved …read more

Previously On Friday Night Lights

Each week, in another desperate attempt to spread the joy that is Friday Night Lights, I’m going to briefly recap the previous weeks’ episode and look forward to the upcoming week. I do this “recap” a week later because the show is on Friday, and I’m not going to recap a show on a Saturday when no one watched it on Friday and no one would, on Saturday, read a recap of a show they didn’t watch on Friday. So, you had the week to watch last week’s season premiere on NBC.com or TiVo. If you didn’t, well, I’m going …read more
