Press Sues NCAA and FSU

On Monday, the Associated Press and a number of other Florida media outlets banded together to sue the NCAA and Florida State. Recently, FSU received a response about their academic cheating scandal, and the school chose to keep these documents private while responding themselves. However, the press says that this is a blatant violation of Florida’s open government laws.
Everyone wants to know what’s in those documents. The NCAA had previous annonced that they’d strip coach Bobby Bowden of a number of wins, and this documnt is in response to an appeal of that decision. Bowden’s in the running to become …read more
FSU Sanctions Response Kept Secret

Florida State has finally received a response from the NCAA about their appeal of sanctions from an academic cheating scandal…but they’ve kept that response a secret. They now have 15 days to respond again to the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions, and the school says that their response will be made public, at least in part.
FSU admits that the cheating occurred and they aren’t challenging the the loss of scholarships in 10 sports and a four-year probation for the dirty deeds. However, they are challenging the part of the sanctions that would strip coach Bobby Bowden of 14 of the school’s …read more

Long ago, former Florida Gators head football coach Steve Spurrier quipped that FSU stood for “Free Shoes University” after wide receivers Peter Warrick and Laveranues Coles’s infamous shoe-shopping spree at a local Dillard’s department store. Now, it appears that FSU might stand for something else: False Scores University.
