Everyone wants to know what’s in those documents. The NCAA had previous annonced that they’d strip coach Bobby Bowden of a number of wins, and this documnt is in response to an appeal of that decision. Bowden’s in the running to become the most winningest major football coach of all time, trailing Penn State’s Joe Paterno by just one win.

Florida State has finally received a response from the NCAA about their appeal of sanctions from an academic cheating scandal…but they’ve kept that response a secret. They now have 15 days to respond again to the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions, and the school says that their response will be made public, at least in part.
FSU admits that the cheating occurred and they aren’t challenging the the loss of scholarships in 10 sports and a four-year probation for the dirty deeds.
FSU admits that the cheating occurred and they aren’t challenging the the loss of scholarships in 10 sports and a four-year probation for the dirty deeds. However, they are challenging the part of the sanctions that would strip coach Bobby Bowden of 14 of the school’s wins.

Normally, that may not be a big deal, but Bowden is neck-and-neck with Penn State’s Joe Paterno for the title of “winningest coach in college football.” Both coaches are expected to retire within the next few years, so there’s not time to make up those 14 wins.

Paterno has gone on record as saying that he hopes the NCAA allowed Bowden to keep the wins. I’m glad to see that he wants a fair fight.

Leave a comment below – should Bowden be allowed to keep his wins or should the games be declared losses?

Now, it appears that FSU might stand for something else: False Scores University.

FSU school officials announced Wednesday that two athletic department assistance employees have resigned and 23 student athletes were implicated in cheating on online exams. At this time, the identities of the 23 students have not been released by the university.

Seminole basketball coach Leonard Hamilton and the rest of the FSU coaches are hoping and praying that their athletes are not involved. If members of the mens basketball team are among the 23 implicated athletes, it could be a very long year for Noles.

Given the large number of colleges that utilize online classes, it is highly likely that other students at other universities are also cheating on their online exams. It will be very interesting to see how the NCAA reacts to this scandal and if the use of online classes comes into question.

As a teacher of online business classes, I have often wondered if any of my students have cheated on their online exams. They are strictly on the honor system when it comes to their exams. For all I know, they could be taking an exam with a room full of people helping them answer the questions. I have no way of knowing if they are honest or not.

Florida State could end up paying a huge penalty when this scandal is put to bed. Scholarships could be taken away, players could be kicked out of school, millions of dollars of sports revenue could be lost.

That is quite the price to pay for good grades…
