Most auto enthusiasts agree with the show’s original findings. While the US is still struggling to get it’s individual transportation on the green, the Japanese have made the leap to hybridizing their railroad system.
The East Japan Railway Company has put the world’s first diesel-electric on tracks. Though twice as expensive as a traditional train, the hybrid offers 20% higher fuel efficiency and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 60%.
