NCAA Limits Event Locations Based on Bets

Like being able to bet on sports games? Well, if you live in a state that allows betting on single games by law, such as Delaware, you may not be able to see any live NCAA events in your area. On Thursday, the NCAA announced that they would no longer allow events to be held in such states. This decision does not apply to states that allow parlay betting, sports pools, lottery tickets, and pull tabs.Officially, though, the NCAA is against all forms of betting, and the don’t allow advertising that promotes gambling at any of their games.

Toledo Ex-RB Admits to Point-Shaving Role

Former University of Toledo running back Adam Cuomo has admitted to being a key player in a point-shaving scheme at the school while he was a student there. Although Cuomo didn’t play much, he was a key contact for the gamblers who organized the scheme. In a point-shaving scheme, the players don’t throw a game, but rather seek to avoid covering the spread.
Last summer, former basketball player Sammy Villegas was charged with fixing gamers during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. Harvey McDougle, a former running back, was also charged on similar counts, but those charges were dropped due to procedural …read more

While many NBA fans—this Boston-loving blogerette included—are excited about the fact that the Celtics are going to win the Celtics–Lakers rivalry breathes again, many are also noticing the big white elephant in the room: Tim Donaghy. Actually, since he was a ref, it’s more like the big zebra in the room, but you get the idea.
Yes, the NBA official accused of gambling on games he refereed has fired back with allegations of NBA game-fixing which, if we were to guess, probably caused a bead or two of sweat to form on the brow of Commissioner David Stern.
