Speaking of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, I’ve again finished its single player campaign and remembered that its’ ending is similar to Resistance: Fall of Man–it’s as abrupt and unsatisfying.
Perhaps it should be made clear to developers that credits aren’t part of a game’s ending.
The short ending is a shame, considering that the single player story is excellent. What I don’t get is why Infinity Ward didn’t put in just a little more effort to flesh out the campaign’s closing moments.
How about a little background on Soap MacTavish? Better yet, some more details on the aftermath of the events [...]
Post from: EveryJoe

How about a little background on Soap MacTavish? Better yet, some more details on the aftermath of the events would give us a better sense of closure. This might actually be necessary considering that everything ended abruptly.

I don’t even get what that mid-air VIP rescue meant. One of the teammates sound suspiciously like Captain Price, which begs the question: who are the characters that survived?

Any theories?

The ending is made up of a short narrative, a rather long list of credits, and one quick cutscene showing the fate of Sergeant Nathan Hale. The video you see above is the quick cutscene after the credits.

Look, I understand that Sony and Insomniac want to create a franchise out of Resistance (in fact, the sequel’s on the way). To do this, the ending should leave room for future installments. What I didn’t expect was that the ending is absolutely unsatisfying.

In a word, it sucked.

Why can’t game companies make better endings? Is it too much to ask that the developers invest a bit more time fleshing out a half-decent denouement, even if a sequel is in the works? Gameplay may be king, but factors like a good ending leave a lasting impression.
