Let me warn you right now. This is not an important post at all. There are far more important topics taking place in the computer industry. However, this post I hope will interest a number of people that are as addicted to playing Farm Town on Facebook as I am.

There’s no need for an intervention for me and my enjoyment of Farm Town on Facebook. But my friend, who’s responsible for my joining the game, and I regularly talk about our farms with each other and help each other out with the harvesting and plowing of our fields.

My frustration is that when I try to help him on his farm the speed is agonizingly slow! I can plow and plant my entire farm in about 15 minutes tops, but if I try to harvest on his farm I can only click on one square at a time and wait for each harvest to complete before moving to the next one. I don’t know what the problem is, but I’d love to find a solution.

Does anyone have an idea of how to speed things up when I’m working on his farm?

I consider myself a casual gamer. I’ve tried various platforms since I was a kid. I played games on our Commodore 64, Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis or Sega Mega Drive, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PCs and recently the Xbox 360.

Macs are cool machines but it’s not really known for gaming. Over the years it has lagged behind PCs in having the latest and greatest games because of the low percentage of users vs. PC users and the architecture behind the systems. But that’s changing now. Since the Mac transitioned to Intel processors, porting games to the Mac platform is easier. With the rising number of people using Macs it’s becoming cleared to game manufacturers that they should pay much more attention to Mac users.

That being said, an article over at VGPRO has listed 5 incredible Mac games coming in 2008. The list includes the following.

1. Starcraft 2 from Blizzard Entertainment – Release date Dec 3, 2008
2. Spore from EA Games – Release date Sept 7, 2008
3. World of Warcraft: Wrath of Lich King from Blizzard Entertainment – Release date Fall 2008
4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from Activision – Release date July 7, 2008
5. Neverwinter Nights 2 from Atari – Release date March 3, 2008

Among all of these my favorite is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I’ve been playing it on my Xbox 360 and spent many a wasted hours on Xbox live.

I’ve tried playing Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun on my Mac but that’s via Windows XP through bootcamp. It’s not the same as having native Mac OS X games. That being said, after awhile I stopped playing. the hassle of using this setup was just too much for me. I know, some people might gripe and say that I’m being a baby and complaining over something so little. At the end of the day, I’m not a hardcore gamer and won’t go through that much trouble to play games. It’s easier to turn on my console.

However, the prospect of playing native Mac OS X games is nice. Since I can bring games with me when I go out and bring my MacBook Pro along.

Are you excited to see more games on the Mac? If so, what games are you excited about?

For people like me who just can’t afford a Nintendo Wii but have a Mac and an iSight, ToySight might just help us get our fix.
ToySight uses the iSight or a firewire camera to put you in the middle of the action. With its bundled games, you use the camera as a control to play. How? You put yourself infront of the camera and reach out and touch buttons, move sliders, etc. The camera tracks your movement and converts this to game movement.

Several games come bundled with ToySight. There’s Skydiver where in you use sliders to control a parachute and try to land as close to the target as possible. There’s Tennis Xtreme which is similar to Pong but this time you bounce around a ticking grenade. PieSight wherein your goal is to hit monkeys with custard pies and whole bunch of other games.

These aren’t Wii quality type of games but it’s a good alternative if you can’t afford a Wii. Plus it puts your iSight to good use.

Check out a video here.

I love games though and I appreciate their value but I really wouldn’t say I’m addicted to gaming. However sometimes there’s a game that I get hooked on. Often times it’s the simple games that get me. Games like Tetris, Bejeweled, etc.. Now it’s Zuma.

A friend of mine introduced me to this game. While it’s been around for a long time already it was the first time I got to play it. Needless to say I got hooked. No work was done for a few hours. Just pure Zuma pleasure.

It’s a pretty simple game actually. There’s a line of balls of different colors following a path. You fire different colored balls from a frog statue and aim to get three of the same color side by side to eliminate the balls. At the end of the path is a hole. If the balls reach there before you eliminate them all, you’re dead. You get three lives. After which, game over. It’s not rocket science. Simple, straight forward, entertaining and addicting.

Zuma is available for a host of platforms PC, Phone, PDA and of course Mac OS X and the iPod. Otherwise I wouldn’t be writing about it. It’s developed by Pop Cap Games.
