Gannett Cuts More Newspaper Jobs

Gannett, the biggest newspaper publisher in the United States, reportedly will layoff approximately 1,400 of its workers around the country. This isn’t the first time that Gannett has cut jobs and is unlikely to be the last time.
Due to increased competition from the internet and the overall economic downturn around the world, the newspaper industry has been extremely hard hit. A number of newspapers have folded and many more have had to massively readjust their compensation rates to try to keep their heads above water.

Gannett Fires 1,000 Employees

Gannett, one of the largest newspaper publisher in the United States, is set to fire an additional 1,000 employees. The Wall Street Journal, who originally reported this news, says that the number could of Gannett employees fired could be raised to 2,000.
Prior to the firings, Gannett is estimated to have about 41,500 employees. But with the newspaper industry in turmoil, it’s not much of a surprise that Gannett is searching for ways to save money.
