Remember when Gary Sheffield and Barry Bonds were not quite best pals? First the two lived together during the 2001 training season (which was when they got close and also fought) and then Sheffield was ticked because he “got pulled into the BALCO investigation through” Bonds. Let’s put it this way, there was no bromance between them for awhile.
But apparently they have kissed and made up. Sheffield said, “Things happen and we react to them, and sometimes you act correctly and sometimes you don’t, and you move on from it. At the end of the day, none …read more

Gary Sheffield of the New York Mets entered the 2009 baseball season with 499 homers. On Friday, Sheffield became the 25th player in Major League Baseball history to hit 500 home runs.
Sheffield’s homer actually was very helpful for the Mets. With New York trailing by a run in the bottom of the seventh, Sheffield’s solo shot tied the score. In the bottom of the ninth, the Mets got the winning run when Luis Castillo hit an infield single and scored Carlos Delgado from third base.
The 40-year-old Sheffield has already been through a lot in the 2009 season. Before the …read more
Gary Sheffield Inks Deal with the Mets

In a bit of a surprise, the New York Mets have signed free agent slugger Gary Sheffield. After the Detroit Tigers released Sheffield, there were rumors linking Sheffield to various destinations. However, the Mets made a hard push for him on Friday and were able to convince Sheffield to join their club.
The most interesting aspect of this transaction will be how the Mets find at-bats for Sheffield. In the past, he has said that he wouldn’t be happy with a reserve role. With the Mets, they could possibly mix him into the outfield rotation and also play him a little …read more

Gary Sheffield, the 40-year-old slugger who could one day find himself in the baseball Hall of Fame, was released by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. The Tigers stated that their motive was to add versatility and flexibility to their team.
Sheffield, who has 499 career homers, indicated that he will quickly sign with another team. In fact, he said that his career is far from over. One time that has supposedly shown early interest in Sheffield is the Philadelphia Phillies.
Last season, Sheffield was slowed by a number of injuries and had arguably his worst season of the last decade. He finished …read more

1. The Bee took 459 pictures from our spot in the 5th row. Seriously. 459. Hence his new nickname, Johnny Pap. (For paparazzi).
2. We made it on television . . . every time they used the right infield camera. Really! Yours truly is the blondie with the red jacket looking at, you know, not the game. (The scoreboard, presumably):
And here’s The Bee (short, spiked silver hair) chatting up the guy on his right:
Yeah, we know that has nothing to do with clinching a playoff spot. But wouldn’t you be excited if you were on television chewing gum and looking fatter than you …read more
Gary Sheffield: Ready For Another Indians Fight

Gary Sheffield has a chip on his shoulder the size of Gisele Bundchen\’s up-for-auction diamond ring. Or larger.\r\n\r\nThe Detroit Tigers slugger, who traded brawl-triggering punches with Cleveland Indians pitcher Fausto Carmona this weekend, isn\’t about to forgive and forget. (Sheffield was suspended for 4 games; Carmona, 6).\r\n\r\nShef is mighty ticked at the Indians who threw \”cheap shots\” and has big plans—big, we tell you—to take matters into his own hands. Hey, keep it PG-13! We meant another fist fight.\r\n\r\nAnyway, to that we say: Um, OK. What. Ev. Ah.\r\n\r\nConveniently enough, we\’re going to the Sox-Indians game tonight. You know how much we enjoy posting brawls on this blog–Coco Crisp and the Rays, the LA Sparks and Detroit Shock (what is it with Detroit?), and now the insta-classic between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians.
This one gets high marks for originality. Ex-Yankee (who apparently still has the ‘tude) Gary Sheffield was hit by a Fausto Carmona pitch . . . but wait till you see how the tension builds before the fists fly:
Sheffield Not Hugging it Out With Boras

Don’t expect Gary Sheffield to speak at Scott Boras‘ Man of the Year dinner any time soon.
Wait, you can stop clutching your heart now. That “Man of the Year” part was hypothetical.
But what about the Detroit Tigers slugger’s feelings for his former agent? To say there’s “no love loss there” would be an understatement along the lines of “A-Rod needs to work on his delivery.” (Yes, we’re talking jokes, not throwing mechanics).
The decidely-past-expired-milk relationship concerns the 3-year, $39M contract Sheffield signed with the New York Yankees in 2003. Apparently Boras wants to get his sticky fingers on some would like a …read more
