Is Your Microwave Oven Killing You?

It might be, slowly. I remember watching an episode of Malcolm In The Middle and the father, Hal, was in the backyard with the microwave oven and he said to one of the kids; “Look, Dewey. I got the microwave to work without closing the door”. While it was funny, it’s also sad that some people have surely tried that, and it’s not good.

Buying Your Own Health Insurance Online

With the insane way the economy is right now many people have to cut costs just to get by. Some people are declining their expensive health plans from their employers while some employers are even cutting their coverage on their health plans. Many people that get laid off from employment are offered a Cobra plan but it’s usually more than twice as expensive than it was when they were employed. How do they honestly expect a person to pay for something like that when they just let you go?

U.S. Troops Are Getting Overweight.

Gerry over at Disease Proof got me thinking about many aspects that may be causing our soldiers home and abroad to become overweight. I wasn’t the most fit troop and I knew it. I could pass a PT test with ease but sadly, it wasn’t until after I got out of the military that I started to be more health and fitness conscious. I wouldn’t completely blame the troops for this problem as much as I would lay blame on the military as a whole. Yes, ultimately a person physical fitness is their responsibility, but you wave a bone …read more

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Get Back In To The Water, Staph Bacteria and Subtropical Beaches.

Reuters via Yahoo! reports that Subtropical beaches may be a transfer point for the Staphylococcus bacteria, specifically the anti-biotic resistant strain.
“We think that people are the instruments for bringing their organisms into the water and leaving it behind,” Dr. Lisa Plano of the University of Miami told reporters at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Chicago on Friday.

Is A Common Cold Vaccine On The Way?

Is a vaccine for the common cold on the way? That would make so many people happy. Not only would this lift a burden to normally healthy people that sometimes come down with the virus, but it would help ease others who have immune system problems that the common cold can often wreak havoc on and possibly prove fatal.

Sperm Donors And Child Support

This is something that I feel there should be some kind of waver on because frankly, it’s ridiculous. If someone donates sperm to a woman that wants a child through a sperm bank and not donating it in the form of sexual intercourse then I don’t feel they should have to pay child support. If you want a child and are impregnated through artificial insemination then you alone are responsible for that child.
When two people have a one night stand or a full relationship and both accept the consequences or responsibilities of possible parenthood by having unprotected sex then …read more

I hope this past week, the Self Help and Reflection week has perhaps opened your eyes to a few things and maybe even helped you discover some things about yourself and inspired at least a sliver of ambition for self improvement.
Asking for and seeking help is not always easy. Some times it’s a matter of getting on swallowing some pride, putting away your ego and finding the right avenue of approach.

Self Help And Reflection: Self Esteem And Confidence

Self Esteem and confidence are not something that can be changed and improved overnight. Self esteem starts at a young age, as does confidence. Being a pompous, cocky jerk does not mean that a person is confident or has high self esteem. It only means they have been lead to believe that they are better than everyone else.
If a person says you can not achieve something then they better have good reason to back it up. If you have a positive, achievable goal that you want to accomplish and someone says that you can not do it, but doesn’t …read more
