Stuff you need to know about Summit League hoops other than the mascot inferiority complexes that exist.
-2007/08 was the inaugural season for the Summit League.
-The league was called the Mid-Continent Conference from 1989-2007. From 1982-1989 it was called the Association of Mid-Continent Universities.
May 15th 2007
“Beginning June 1st, the Mid-Continent Conference will be known as the Summit League. The name change is part of the “Summit Plan” to try and turn the league into a premier academic and athletic mid-major conference. The Mid-Con has struggled in recent years to find an identity, as its schools are scattered throughout the country, and …read more
It May Be Time To Give The Olympics Back To The College Players

Anybody with a pulse has probably been keeping up with what’s been going on at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
The United States basketball team destroyed Spain today 119-82 to advance to the medal round. This should come as no surprise. The U.S. has been abusing the competition since they got off the plane in Beijing and will no doubt bring home the gold and make up for the sins of the 2004 team that had to settle for the bronze.
Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Carmello Anthony and other members of the “Redeemed Team” are showing the rest …read more

Through all the NBA Draft hype, I got a message from reader Ransom Marshall who asked me what I thought about IUPUI guard George Hill.
My response was: “I for one like Hill. Is he an NBA prospect? I agree with Ryan [Pravato] and say not this year. I’m not a fan of players from some of the more low-profile schools coming out that early after not really being tested. With another solid year of college under his belt he could be a good role player for an NBA team in 2009-10. I just hope this kid doesn’t end up …read more
NBA Draft offal: Where Minnesota Trades Mayo Happens

On Thursday night Minnesota had a lot of people respecting them, believing they had made the correct selection at #3. But when folks woke up Friday, many were probably not too surprised the team who gave up Kevin Garnett traded away O.J. Mayo too. This time the T-Wolves didn’t get a Al Jefferson type of talent in return, instead they got a low ceiling player in Kevin Love.
Memphis looks much more legit now with a Mayo-Gay combo.
Minnesota? Jefferson-McCants, Jefferson-Gomes.
Ouch.
Speaking of Memphis, Chris Douglas-Roberts did get chosen by a team on …read more
Potential NBA draftees who would be better off NOT getting drafted

Why would anyone not want to see their name shown on the big draft board on draft night?
Well, undrafted players will be able to pick and chose the most ideal situation. They get to decide which team they go to. Drafted players don’t get to decide.
Michigan State’s Drew Neitzel
Drew played both point and shooting guard during his career at MSU. He’s a small guy, only about 6’, not very athletic, but very basketball savvy. Can shoot it as well as anybody in the draft –off the dribble as well– plus he can handle the point sufficiently. …read more
Surprise Surprise

Almost a month ago—I’m not a professional analyst, yet—I wrote Should I stay or should I go? and proclaimed Jamont Gordon and Bill Walker, among others, would stay in school.
Well, they didn’t.
Walker’s decision wasn’t a big surprise, but Gordon’s was. But even more surprising was the college departures of George Hill and Luc Richard Mbah A Moute and the withdrawing of Ty Lawson, Chase Budinger and the nearly 24 year old Lester Hudson.
The league will have an official list out later on Tuesday.
Below is a list of the guys who were undecided going into …read more
