The Favre Return, a Packer Fan’s Thoughts

There’s a lot of division amongst Packer fans right now, and it’s all thanks to the poor way Brett Favre’s retirement was handled from Packer management and the man himself. As soon as there was a rumor Favre might play for the Vikings, I circled the date the Packers would play the Vikings in Lambeau on the calendar. I knew it was going to be a big one.
The Packers, in the three weeks leading up to this match up played the Lions and Browns and got themselves feeling very confident. Overconfident. So it was a definite …read more

It’s gotta feel nice to be Brett Favre right now. Earlier in the season, he beat the Green Bay Packers in Minnesota. On Sunday, he led his Vikings into Lambeau Field and beat the Packers again.
And Favre wasn’t just along for the ride. He was arguably the game’s best player. He finished his Week 8 contest 17-for-28 for 244 yards and four touchdowns. In two starts against the Vikings, Favre had seven touchdowns and no interceptions.
Favre and the Vikings got off to a fast start. After Favre connected with Percy Harvin on a 51-yard touchdown two minutes into the second …read more

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 0-7. They’ve already tried two different starting quarterbacks. They will now try a third. Rookie Josh Freeman, who the Bucs selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft, will get the start in Week 8 when Tampa Bay plays the Green Bay Packers.
To begin the season, the Buccaneers had Byron Leftwich at quarterback. After three starts, the Bucs changed up and went with Josh Johnson. Neither quarterback was too effective — Leftwich had a quarterback rating of 71.2, while Johnson’s QB rating was 50.9.
In Week 7, Freeman saw his first NFL action. He …read more
Packers May Trade Kampman?

If you watched the Packers and Vikings game on Monday night, one of things you may have noticed was that no one was calling Aaron Kampman’s name very much. That’s because in the Packers new 3/4 defense, he out of his usual three-point stance. Kampman has had a couple really great years as a pass rusher and sack leader, but has struggled under the new defense that Dom Capers has installed.
Now, if I own a football team, I’m keeping a player like Aaron Kampman and rethinking the 3/4 defense. Especially if that defense can’t stop a run …read more

Not long ago, Vince Young appeared on track to become an NFL star. Now? A solid preseason showing is undeniably a step in the right direction after the way his career has derailed.
A solid showing is exactly what he showed in the Titans’ preseason finale on Thursday against the Green Bay Packers. Young had a hand in two touchdowns as the Titans won the exhibition game 27-13.
Young finished 7-for-12 for 85 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, the quarterback who played his college football at the University of Texas, Young ran five times for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Packers Considering Michael Vick

I wonder if Ted Thompson has any idea what good PR is? Seriously. Good PR would have been to release Brett Favre at the first sign that you didn’t want him on your team any longer. Instead, Thompson tried to play mind games and make it clear he didn’t want Favre. But he didn’t want to just release him. Nope. He let the fans instead go through the up and down “retired, no wait, not retired, no wait…” because Favre couldn’t make up his mind. Thompson didn’t want to be the one that …read more

Bubba Franks re-signed with the New York Jets earlier in the offseason. But even prior to the start of training camp, Franks is out of a job. Unable to play in the team’s offseason minicamp and practices, the Jets decided to cut their ties with the tight end.
Last year with the Jets, Franks was only able to play in eight games due to injuries. In those eight games, he had six catches for 47 yards.
Prior to joining the Jets, Franks played for the Green Bay Packers for eight years. The 31-year-old played his college football at Miami and came into …read more

According to a report on ESPN.com, Greg Jennings is close to signing an extension that will keep him on the Green Bay Packers until the 2013 NFL season.
Jennings’ new contract will reportedly pay him $27 million — with $16 million of that money being guaranteed. He also has incentives in the contract that could bump it up another $3 million. Prior to this extension, Jennings was due to make less than $600K.
In the last two season, Jennings has been extremely impressive. In 2007, he had 920 yards with 12 touchdowns. In 2008, he finished the season with 1,292 yards and …read more
Paris Lenon Inks Deal with the Patriots

Linebacker has usually been a position of strength for the New England Patriots over the last few years. However, the Patriots looked to be thin at linebacker with training camp around the corner. On Wednesday, New England addressed their linebacking needs by signing free agent Paris Lenon.
Lenon fits the mold of what the Patriots look for in a linebacker. He’s good against the run, looks to make plays and has a healthy amount of veteran savvy. The 31-year-old out of Richmond has seven years of NFL experience. The last three years were with the Detroit Lions, while his previous four …read more
Bubba Franks to Play for the Jets Again

Although Bubba Franks didn’t have a very productive year in his first season with the New York Jets, the Jets apparently saw enough to give him another chance. On Tuesday, the two sides agreed to a one-year contract that will have the bulky tight end in New York for the 2009 football campaign.
Last year, Franks played in eight games and had just six receptions for 47 yards and no touchdowns. All six of his receptions came in the first four weeks of the season. By the end of the 2008 campaign, rookie Dustin Keller was starting at tight end for …read more
