Just two jobs today. Hopefully, there will be more next week, but I know a lot of websites aren’t hiring right now with the poor economy and the holidays coming up!

As a freelance writer, I work at home, and I’m highly aware how convenient it is to not have to commute to the office every day. Beyond being convenient, however, telecommuting is an extremely green option, since you’re not using fuel and polluting the air. Even if you have a hybrid or low-emissions/high gas mileage car, staying home is always the greener option.
So, should you give your employees the option to telecommute? Here are some things, good and bad, to consider:
Will telecommuting lower productivity levels? It takes a lot of discipline to work at home, and if you’re paying …read more
Green Energy = Jobs

According to a recent UN report, green energy will create about 20 million jobs over the next few decades. In a time when the job market is slumping (especially in states like Michigan), that’s good news.
At the same time, I think this stat is a little misleading. Although, for example, a company producing solar panels may be hiring in greater numbers, “dirty” jobs will continue to decline. So, we’re not looking completely at 20 ADDITIONAL jobs. Some of these jobs will be instead of jobs at, for example, coal mines or oil drilling companies.
Still, there are green jobs …read more

While the rest of the job market is spiraling down the tubes, green job options are only increasing. Today, I read an interesting report at GreenBiz.com about a Maryland company offering environmental training for those interested in green auditing.

More and more often, larger corporations are hiring green auditors permanently, so on top of …read more
Career Stress – Could it be Killing our Planet?

A recent article by the Christian Science Monitor got me to thinking…could work stress actually be hurting the environment? Could finding a low-stress job you love actually be a green choice?
In this article, which you can read here, researchers have studied the happiness of the world across many categories, and what they’ve found is that high-consumption countries are not, in general, among the happiest countries. According to this report, in fact, some of the happiest countries in the world are poor countries in Latin America.
It is pretty certain that happiness and consumption are adversely related, with a breaking point, …read more
