In Week 9 of the 2009 NFL season, Moats will make his first start. Last week, he had 126 rushing yards and a franchise record three rushing touchdowns. Slaton, on the other hand, was benched after yet another fumble.

Last year, Slaton rushed for 1,282 yards and had 377 receiving yards. He also had nine rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. This year, Slaton has 342 rushing yards, 314 receiving yards and a total of four touchdowns.

In Week 9, the Texans take on the Indianapolis Colts. The Texans have won three straight games and four out of their last five, but they have a very difficult test this week. If Moats can help Houston beat the Colts, he may keep that starting job for the foreseeable future. If he struggles, Slaton will likely get another shot to prove that his rookie season wasn’t a fluke.

For his career, which spans back to 1999, Brown has hit 231-of-294 field goals for 78.6%. He’s also connected on 304-of-310 extra point attempts. While with the Texans, Brown has nailed 208-of-209 extra point attempts.

With the Texans likely to have a high-powered offense in the 2009 NFL season, Brown will likely be plenty busy.

Grossman is known as the former starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears who the fans and media pundits loved to hate. Although he took the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006, Grossman could never gain a firm grip on that starting job.

Last year, Grossman was beat out by Kyle Orton. As a free agent this offseason, he hasn’t generated much interest. However, landing with the Texans makes a lot of sense. He can backup Matt Schaub and give the team a veteran who could fill in when needed.

In his career, 2006 was by far his best season. That year, he had 3,193 passing yards to go along with 23 passing touchdowns.

While he first said that he reviewed the tape and didn’t find anything wrong with his actions during the traffic stop, the apology statement was later issued by his lawyers.

Here is the text of the Robert Powell’s apology:

“I wish to publicly and sincerely apologize to the Moats family, my colleagues in the Dallas Police Department, and to all those who have been rightfully angered by my actions on March 18, 2009. After stopping Mr. Moats’ vehicle, I showed poor judgment and insensitivity to Mr. Moats and his family by my words and actions. With great remorse I accept my responsibility for adding to their grief in an already difficult time.

I have attempted to reach Mr. Moats to express my personal condolences directly to his family and my regret about my actions. While these efforts have been unsuccessful so far, I hope we can talk soon.

Again, I am very sorry for what I did and ask for the forgiveness of all those touched by these unfortunate events.”

On Thursday, the Police Chief for the Dallas Police Department apologized for Powell’s actions. As of now, there has been no definite punishment handed down to Powell.

By the time Moats was able to make it to his mother-in-law’s hospital room, she had passed.

Moats was with his wife and other family members as they were rushing to the hospital to see the wife’s dying mother. With Moats behind the wheel, he rolled through a red light during his rush. Officer Powell pulled Moats over and that’s when the unfortunate incident began.

Instead of allowing Moats to rush to the bedside of his dying mother-in-law, he stalled for nearly 20 minutes. Even when another officer came to confirm that Moats’ mother-in-law was indeed dying, the police officer continued to stall.

Although Moats tried repeatedly to explain his situation, he got nowhere. The saddest aspect of this story is that Moats’ mother-in-law ended up dying by the time he reached her following the delay.

After reviewing film of the incident, the Dallas Police Chief threw out the ticket, apologized to Moats and launched a further investigation. Moats has said that he thinks the incident could have been racially motivated.

Here is the Ryan Moats video of him and the accused racist cop:
