If you want to be noticed on the road, none make a bigger statement than a Hummer. The new H3 for 2009 now comes in a pickup for added versatility. Now you can use your Hummer for work, on the farm or just for plain fun.

Hummer knows that people who will buy the H3T usually want a truck that can tow a trailer or boat for their next road trip. That’s why they’ve added a rear camera that also acts as a ball & hitch connector guide. So you’ll never need a guide to help you hook up your favourite toys again. And with 5,900 lbs towing capacity with the optional 5.3L V8 you will be the king of the road.

The H3T also comes with the optional leather heater seats, power everything and an impressive 3.7L 242 hp I5 or 5.3L 300 hp V8 engine. The ability to customize the H3T makes it ‘the most versatile truck ever.’ It can be customized to be used for any purpose in mind.

Unlike other Hummers the H3T was made for off-roading. The H3T has an under-carrige guard that helps protect it from protruding obstacles, as well as an impressive ability to tread through 24 inches of water at 5 mph. It can also handle an incline slope of 60% as well as a 40% side tilt.

GM to Stop Making Hummers??

I never thought this day would come. At a time when gas prices are really beginning to affect the way people live, not just drive, GM is closing truck and SUV plants (including the plant in Oshawa, Ontario where the hybrid Silverado/Sierras were going to be made! Grumble. Grumble.)

CEO Rick Wagoner claims the company is reviewing the Hummer’s future.
In light of a lack of interest for purchasing Hummer, GM may settle for redesigning the SUVs to much smaller scales (a la, the HX).
Read More Here

It makes sense to me that they’d scrap their vehicles that aren’t selling, and redesign classics to meet modern needs … but Why close a hybrid truck plant when gas prices are driving sales down? I know GM has made the Volt their #1 priority, but trucks are functional vehicles people are going to need, and they’re going to buy, but they’re not going to have better options. (Especially while they’re making hybrid SUVs that aren’t selling.)

No joking folks. April Fools Day is best left to amateurs, as one of my hokey friends has been known to say. Hummer has dedicated time and (very little) effort to new, more earth-friendly SUVs AND SUTs. (SUT? Really?)

The 2009 H2 models out later this year will be FlexFuel capable, something that other companies have been making standard for nearly a decade now. By 2010, all of their cars will be E85 capable, meaning they will use even more fuel than before, but emissions will be less. According to Autobloggreen, a diesel may be in the works (bringing bio-diesel into play).

Roughly 30,000 of these hit the road every year, so it does add up. I guess.

What about their H2H Hummer Hydrogen prototypes? They’ve been on the road since October of 2004, and go a whopping 60 miles on 12 lbs of fuel. A collaboration between the Governor’s office, GM and Quantum Technologies, it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere quickly.

Hummer is a good example of how the law propels progress (making the recent decision by the California Air Resources Board so tragic). This is a quote from their website regarding the new H2 SUT.

The H2 SUT’s new engine is not just more efficient, but beats the deadline for the new US federal emissions standards by a year.

That’s their benchmark, and if expectations go down, so will their priority with one of the world’s leading gas-guzzler brands.

Hummer: What? Are you embarrassed of me?

I had the weirdest dream last night. Me, the hubster and the kids went out to dinner and at some point during the night it dawned on me that Denn was on a date with another woman at our table. (Oh yeh, you know I woke up happy. :p ) Suddenly we were at home and I said, “So, you’re seeing this lady, now?” And he got all schoolgirl-ish on me and said, “It was only our first date, but I really think it’s going to work.” Ugh! By far the strangest part was when his inability to upload videos of his new girlfriend to the internet made me feel better. Wha-?!

Anyway … it must be the day for rejections because Hummer got the nudge at Houston’s Auto Show when Product Specialist “Lyda” refused to give people her last name. From the Houston Chronicle:

“It’s a statement,” said Lyda, a product specialist for Hummer who declined to give her last name. “A Hummer is like nothing else. They drive beautifully.”

Lyda dismissed the Hummer’s reputation as one of America’s biggest gas guzzlers. She touted the off-road handling of the Hummer, which can climb a 60-degree incline and negotiate a 40-degree sideslope without rolling over.

That’s great, but apparently not great enough for her to be personally associated with its anti-environmental image. They should have hired show-goer, Gayle Hill, who proudly declared the impact on our planet no big deal. According to Hill, she only drives 10 to 12 minutes to work anyway. Someone needs to introduce her to Green Vehicles’ luxury electric vehicles that are going for a good $40,000 less.

I love this article because of two things. It shows the success of an “unofficial” unschooler – much like my husband – who left school before high school and today is making a killing … and innovations. And because it shows you how you can have what you want – even a Hummer! – and be eco-friendly, too.

”Conservatively,” Goodwin muses, scratching his chin, “[the Hummer H3 will] get 60 miles to the gallon. With 2,000 foot-pounds of torque. You’ll be able to smoke the tires. And it’s going to be superefficient.”
