Read my recent Small Business blog post on protecting business data to get more ideas.

The University of South Florida has a USF SafetyFlorida website that includes a Hurriplanner, which takes you through the decisions you need to make, phone numbers and emergency help you can receive. The Hurriplanner creates a Word document that you can save and make changes to as needed. It includes all kinds of information about how to prepare for disasters, including hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires. So get going and put that plan together. Then put it in a safe place and hope you don’t need it.

My friend Lori McAuliffe who owns the eBay Store Rocket City Sales, sent me this comment regarding how the weather can affect eBay sales.
“Today alone we have 4 items that sold going to Florida areas where people are home, the weather is not bad enough to knock out power, so they are piddling on the internet and buying on eBay. This trend would continue since Hurricane Fay may linger for the next week around Florida , Georgia, and possibly Alabama, depending on what track she takes.”

Very interesting observation, Lori. Much like like the debate on whether people buy on eBay during holidays. I find that they do and I am always prepared to serve them. Many are off work and going out of their mind from boredom and goof around on the computer. Others are at work but not with much to do, so they surf over to eBay for a look. Even after the Christmas holiday, my sales are good since people often have gift money to spend, or they are out of their normal routine and buy on eBay for entertainment.

Thank you for your guest post. Other readers, feel free to send in your guest posts! A link will be posted back to your eBay store.
