Elena Delle Donne was on the fast track to basketball stardom as the 2008 Naismith national high school basketball player of the year and one of the most highly sought girls’ prep players in the country. She had a full ride to UCONN and would have won an NCAA Championship with the Huskies had she not left school and returned to Delaware to play volleyball instead.
Gino Auriemma didn’t know what to make of the situation and concluded that Delle Donne was making the biggest mistake of her life.
In the end, it wasn’t basketball burnout that caused Delle Donne to give …read more

Jim Calhoun and the soon-to-be number one ranked Huskies beat No. 8 Marquette 93-82 last night.
It’s not like Calhoun wasn’t one of the sport’s elite coaches, but now he joins Bob Knight, Dean Smith, Adolph Rupp, Jim Phelan, Mike Krzyzewski and Eddie Sutton as the only other coaches to win 800 games.
I don’t know about you, but I think Calhoun deserves a raise.
Connectitcut Governor Chastises Calhoun?

I wonder if the good governor of Connecticut will feel this way if Jim Calhoun and the Huskies bring home another national championship and the boatload of money that comes with it.
And since when does “activist” and “freelance journalist” go together? The nut who goaded Calhoun is the embarrassment to the profession. Not Calhoun!

Your pounding of Providence today 91-67 means you will be the new number one team in the nation!
But don’t get too comfortable. You could only be there for a few hours.
The Huskies play at Louisville on Monday night. A loss there could make it the shortest stay ever by any team at number one.

The 16th ranked Connecticut Huskies received a boost to their lineup on Tuesday as suspended forward Jerome Dyson was reinstated to the squad.
Dyson was suspended for nine games after he was cited by campus police for possession of alcohol by a minor. Following the citation, Dyson failed a drug test and was suspended.
Dyson was averaging 14 points per game before his suspension, and his presence will give the Huskies another weapon on the offensive end of the court. Connecticut currently sits fourth in the Big East standings, but they are only one game behind leaders Georgetown and Louisville in the …read more
UConn vs. Memphis…as it happens

UConn and Memphis will be squaring off in the championship game of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic at MSG this evening, and I wanted to do a running commentary of the game. I want to see if Derrick Rose is the real deal, and if Memphis can challenge for the national title this season.
UConn coach Jim Calhoun just said that Memphis is the most athletic team in the country. Memphis coach John Calipari called the Tigers offense “Princeton on steroids”…they are always attacking the basket, always pushing the ball, lots of motion. The Huskies are going to have their …read more
