US Post Office Gives Hydrogen a Try
While the UPS leads the world in fuel efficiency among delivery companies, the United States Postal Service hasn’t shown much interest in greening up their fleet. Things may be changing. Starting tomorrow, the USPS begins testing a Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle provided by General Motors.
You might ask yourself, why? Why hydrogen? Why now? A $600 Million increase in fuel costs might be one reason. We can’t look past the fact that they are testing new vehicles out, either. It may be a sham to appease the public for now, but what they learn may make a real difference.

May 1st, Popular Mechanics came out with a list of ten X Prize hopefuls. Some of the companies are already on our radar, and others haven’t received much press at all.
Electric-Propane hybrid? Hyundai’s Elantra in 2009, Kia hybrid 2010
For the most part, in the U.S. Hyundai travels under the radar. Despite winning the Michelin Challenge Bibendum with their hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, the Tuscon FCEV, and having a healthy test fleet, no one’s really thought of them as a contender in the race toward greener autos. That may change next year as the South Korean company not only reveals two new hybrids … but one of which utilizes propane to create even fewer emissions.

GM’s Hydrogen powered Equinox Gets a Thumbs Up
From MarketWatch:
”It is both quick and quiet since it is an electric vehicle with a lot fewer moving parts than the traditional internal combustion-powered truck.
GM believes that the cost of filling up with hydrogen would be competitive with gasoline.
Of course, the key advantages are reducing the nation’s dependence on oil, and the fact that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles emit only water vapor.”
