The 2009 Basketball Hall of Fame class was inducted on Friday. Leading the way was Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest basketball player in the history of the sport. I think it’s always notable when women make the cuts for the Naismith Hall of Fame. Let’s face it — it’s not an everyday occurrence.
The field of Hall of Fame nominee list was trimmed down to 16 finalists from 164 names.
Rutgers women’s coach C. Vivian Stringer and two-time WNBA MVP Cynthia Cooper both made the cut (and deservingly so).
The Hall of Fame’s election announcement will be made April 6 at the NCAA Final Four in Detroit, with enshrinement in September at the Hall in Springfield, Mass. All 16 finalists are eligible:
