Tiger Woods Wins BMW Championship

After Tiger Woods finished with a course-record 62 on Saturday, the BMW Championship was all but over. Entering Sunday with a seven-shot lead, Woods just had to avoid a collapse to take home the victory. As it turned out, his 68 on Sunday was easily enough.
Woods was -19 at the BMW Championship and won it by eight shots over Marc Leishman of Australia and Jim Furyk of the United States. Sean O’Hair, also of the United States, at -10 was the only other golfer to finish within ten shots of Woods.
After the victory, Woods said the difference between this week …read more

O’Hair, Furyk Sitting Atop the Leaderboard

It’s been said that great golfers feed off each other, elevating their play to match their playing partners.  Never was that saying more evident than the third round at the Deutsche Bank Championship, where the trio of Jim Furyk, Sean O’Hair and Retief Goosen accounted for 17 birdies and one eagle.  When it was all said and done, Furyk and O’Hair found themselves perched atop the leaderboard at 12-under for the tournament.  Goosen is within striking distance, only two strokes back at 10-under.
A gaggle of players sit three strokes back of the leaders at 9-under, including John Senden, Justin Leonard, …read more

Furyk Gaffe Costs Him $130k at The Barclays

From time to time everyone makes mistakes.  Happens to the best of us.  Hopefully our mistakes don’t end up costing us $131,250 like they did Jim Furyk.  As a rule, golfers are allowed 14 clubs in their bag during tournament play, a rule that Furyk and his caddy Fluff Cowan seemed to have forgotten at The Barclays.  The club in question was a 60-degree wedge with extra bounce, a club he thought might be needed, but chose instead to go with his usual low bounce wedge.  Because of his bag’s rain hood, both he and Cowan forgot to remove the …read more

Woods Takes Over Lead at AT&T National

It looks like Tiger Woods meant it when he said that he wanted to be a “greedy host” at the AT&T National.  Woods followed up his opening round 64 with an impressive 4-under 66 to leave him at 10-under for the tournament.  His 36 hole score sets a new Congressional scoring record, besting the previous record of 9-under held by Tom Pernice Jr. and Jeff Overton.
First round leader Anthony Kim couldn’t capitalize on his terrific opening round 62, falling behind Woods by two strokes after shooting a round of even par for the day.  Former U.S. Open winner Jim Furyk …read more

PGA Tour Testing Reveals No PED Use

I can’t say that this announcement really surprised me, but it seems that after a year of testing for performance enhancing substances of players on the PGA tour, no player tested positive.  Not a one.  The announcement was made Wednesday by PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem.  Besides testing for anabolic steroids and human growth hormone, the tour also tested players for so-called recreational drugs, however, these results would not have been made public.  According to Finchem, positive results for recreational drugs among tour players would fall under “conduct unbecoming,” and the individual would be dealt with accordingly.
Tour officials were initially …read more

Tiger Rallies to Capture the Memorial

The collective groan you may have heard from the rest of the PGA tour this past Sunday can only mean one thing–Tiger Woods is back.  Woods, the world’s number one player, overcame a four stroke deficit with a blazing 7 under 65 to capture his 4th Memorial title.  The exclamation point of Tiger’s final round was on the 18th hole, when he smoked a 7 iron from the fairway that ended up a foot from the hole for a tap-in birdie.
His impressive win, highlighted by birdies on 3 of the final 4 holes, answered many lingering questions about his surgically …read more

Perry Set to Be Oldest Masters Champion

Don’t tell Kenny Perry he’s too old to win the Masters Tournament. The 48-year-old Kentuckian is playing one of the best tournaments of his career and is tied for the lead after three rounds with Argentina’s Angel Cabrera. Should Perry win tomorrow, he’ll be the oldest man to win a major golf championship.

Perry is no stranger to competition. He has 13 PGA wins since turning pro in 1982. He was also a catalyst to Team USA’s Ryder Cup win last year in Perry’s native Kentucky. Previously, the best he has finished at Augusta is 12th (in …read more
