Jimmy Rollins Hits Walk-Off Double

Jimmy Rollins hasn’t had a great season. His batting average was down, his on-base percentage was down and he went through a number of slumps. That, however, is all forgotten after Rollins hit a walk-off double to give the Philadelphia Phillies a 3-1 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS.

Philadelphia Phillies Clinch the NL East

For the third straight year, the Philadelphia Phillies have won the NL East. They clinched the division on Wednesday with a 10-3 win over the Houston Astros. After the game, the Phillies celebrated with a little help from adult beverages.
However, manager Charlie Manuel remain subdued. The manager of the reigning World Series champions has bigger goals in mind.
“I’ll celebrate,” said Manuel, “when we get to the big one.”
Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino and Pedro Feliz all had two hits and Raul Ibanez hit his 34th home run of the season and finish the contest with three RBIs.

Pedro Martinez Victorious in his Return

Pedro Martinez wasn’t great but he was good enough in his 2009 baseball debut. Signed earlier in the season by the Philadelphia Phillies, Martinez helped his new team beat the Chicago Cubs by a final count of 12-5.
In five innings of work, Martinez gave up three earned runs, seven hits and one walk. He also struck out five batters while throwing 99 pitches.
After the game, Martinez talks about how happy he was with his performance.

They Said It: Jimmy Rollins

“All you have to do is win the game, and they’ll cheer. They want a winner. We want to win. They’ll cheer if we win. And if they don’t, oh well.”

Reigning National League MVP Jimmy Rollins offered up that quote Saturday while the Philadelphia Phillies were on a road trip in San Diego. The Phillies return to Citizens Bank Park tonight for a homestand that will last nine games.
Rollins has been criticized lately for his comments about the fans in Philadelphia on two TV sports talk shows.
