Vijay to Play Australian PGA Championship

It took eleven years, but three-time major winner Vijay Singh is finally making his way back to the land down under, after committing to play in this year’s Australian PGA Championship.  The Fiji-born Singh has not played in Australia since helping the International team defeat the United States in the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne.
Singh, currently ranked 13th in the world, is yet another big name player who will be participating in the tournament.  Defending champ Geoff Ogilvy and big hitting John Daly are two other players who earlier announced their intent to play the event, which takes place in …read more

Daly Set to Return to Aussie Open

Much like a recovering alcoholic making amends with those they’ve wronged, John Daly is returning to an event where he had one of his more magnificent meltdowns, the Australian Open.  For those of you not familiar with Daly’s history at said event, the formerly rotund long-ball masher received a suspended fine at last year’s tournament, his punishment for taking a spectator’s camera and smashing it into a tree on the 9th hole at Royal Sydney.
But last year’s incident wasn’t the only transgression on Daly’s record while playing in Australia.  In 2002, at the Australian PGA Championships, Daly threw his putter …read more

Woods Stays Hot, Leads at PGA Championship

Tiger Woods had momentum on his side today entering first round play at the PGA Championship, and his scorching play as of late continued as he finds himself the first round leader at Hazeltine.  Woods shot a near-perfect, bogey-free round today, finishing with a 5-under 67.  Every aspect of Tiger’s game was on the mark today, as he missed only two fairways, three greens, and required only 29 putts the entire round.
Woods’ playing partner, defending champion Padraig Harrington, also continued his recent strong play, shooting a 4-under 68 to sit a stroke back of Tiger.  A group of players, including …read more

Daly to Star in New Reality Show

In his latest attempt at cleaning up his image, popular golfer John Daly, known more for his off-the-course antics than his actual golf game, is set to star in an upcoming reality series on the Golf Channel.  Daly was previously showcased in a 13-part series shown on the same channel, aptly titled “The Daly Planet.”  This current venture into reality television is set to focus on Daly’s new and improved “clean” lifestyle, as camera crews will follow him during his day to day life.
Much of Daly’s popularity is linked to his hard-drinking, fast-living, everyman quality.  He’s been married thrice, been …read more

Duval In, Daly Out at U.S. Open

As the saying goes, “many are called, few are chosen.”  Unfortunately for John Daly, he was not one of those few.  Playing in a U.S. Open qualifier in Tennessee on Monday, Daly came up short in his bid to earn one of the thirteen spots available..  However, another former major winner fared much better in Columbus, Ohio at a different qualifying event.  2001 British Open champ David Duval was among those who qualified for a spot at next week’s U.S. Open, along with fellow British Open winner Tom Lehman.
Other notables who qualified on Monday include Matt Kuchar and Fred Funk, …read more

John Daly to Endorse Sports Drink

I can honestly say I never saw this one coming.  John Daly, the hard hitting, hard drinking, hard living bad boy of the PGA tour has signed a multi-year endorsement deal with All Sport sports drink.  As per the agreement, the All Sport Body Quencher logo will be placed on Daly’s collar, and Big Red will be featured on his golf bag.  The same golf bag that used to have the Hooter’s logo emblazoned on it.
Daly, slimmer and sober, is gearing up to play in the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee this coming weekend.  It will be his first …read more

Daly to Return to PGA Tour in Memphis

Two-time major champion John Daly plans to return to the PGA Tour in three weeks for the St. Jude Championship and U.S. Open qualifying. Daly was suspended from the PGA Tour for six months back in November following a series of negative incidents.
During his time off from the Tour, he hasn’t been out of golf altogether. He has played in eight tournaments overseas and tied for second place in the Italian Open. Daly didn’t feel that he deserved to be suspended, but he’s sure to be glad to be reinstated.
“He’s been working on his game, working on trying to get …read more

Slimmer Daly Looks to Regain Winning Form

John Day, banned from the PGA Tour for six months for bringing disrepute to the tour, held a press conference today, where he showed off his 60-pound slimmer physique and declared his intention to get back to his tournament winning ways.
Daly, who won the 1991 US Open and the 1995 British Open, had a surgical procedure that helped to go from 280 pounds to his current 220 pounds (the same weight at which he won the Open).
Daly has committed to playing several events on the European Tour while he waits for his PGA ban in end in June. Daly …read more
