Stricker Hangs On at John Deere Classic

Sitting three strokes back of leader Darron Stiles, with two rounds of golf crammed into one long day obviously didn’t phase Steve Stricker one bit, as he followed up a course record 61 on Saturday with a third round 68, followed immediately by an impressive final round 64 to finish at 20-under for the John Deere Classic.  This was the Wisconsin native’s second victory of the season, but more importantly, the win gives him some much needed momentum heading into the British Open.

Stricker Makes Move at John Deere Classic

The weather was a bit more cooperative today than yesterday, as the John Deere Classic resumed Saturday with the golfers completing second round action, and a 36 hole Sunday to look forward to.  Darron Stiles and Lee Janzen led the tournament after Thursday’s opening round, but only Stiles still finds himself atop the leaderboard after a lovely 6-under today left him 13-under for the tourney.  But the big story of the day was Steve Stricker, who finds himself three strokes back of Stiles at 10-under after two rounds.  Stricker finds himself all alone in second place thanks to a course …read more

Janzen, Stiles Share Lead at John Deere

With the first round of the John Deere Classic in the books, a surprising name can be found atop the leaderboard.  Two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen fired an opening round 7-under 64 to share the lead with Darron Stiles.  The 44-year-old Janzen hasn’t won on tour since since 1998, when he captured his second U.S. Open.  But after doing some major retooling to his swing, Janzen finds himself in the catbird seat, hoping to recapture past glory.
