Things went from bad to worse in the third inning of the game between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees for Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester. Lester, who had given up eight hits, three walks and five earned runs already, was hit with a liner near his right knee. After laying on the ground in obvious pain, he was removed from the contest.
X-rays were taken and they were negative. Right now, Boston is calling Lester’s injury a bruised quad. It’s uncertain whether or not Lester will be forced to miss any action.

You can’t blame New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi for being a crankypants these days.
Hank Steinbrenner lashed out at the team, A-Rod’s soap opera marriage is back in the headlines with a Madonna twist, and Jon Lester threw a shutout last night in the 7-0 Boston Red Sox win over the Yanks last night.

What kind of Boston Red Sox fan would we be if we didn’t brag about share the news about pitcher—and cancer survivor—Jon Lester’s no-hitter against the Kansas City Royals last night.

As for Lester, he’s the first Sox leftie to throw a no-hitter since 1956. Check out the ESPN highlights here (2m, 38s):
