Journey – Don’t Stop Believing (Arnel Pineda)

Arnel Pineda is a Filipino who lived most of his life in low-key struggling as an artist performing in small bars and restaurants. In June 2007, someone sent Neal Schon of the legend band “Journey” a YouTube link of Arnel singing one of their songs — Survivor. In an interview here in the Philippines, Neal admitted he watched the video for the heck of it but immediately struck a chord on Arnel’s voice. He went on to search for more video of Arnel Pineda which was uploaded by his friend Noel Gomez. He then found ways to contact Arnel until Neal called him in the phone which the struggling artist dismissed as a joke.

That phone call changed the life of this artist, as he became the lead vocalist of Journey. The band was reborn and their “Revelation Tour” was the eight grossing concert of 2008 where Arnel Pineda sang in 60 concerts. Arnel also sang on February 1, 2009 with Journey at the Super Bowl XLIII Pregame show.

In the Philippines, Arnel is now a superstar and everytime he flies back to the Philippines, he is packed with singing gigs on the biggest television programs in the country.

Struggling artists here in the Philippines are lucky to earn 800 USD a month which is still huge considering that most households live on a 300-400 USD/month budget. The “Journey” opportunity is huge for Arnel and we are just happy that he was given the opportunity to make it big.

This week, I’d be posting videos of Arnel Pineda, superstar product of YouTube. Journey is currently in the Philippines for their March 14 concert, their first in the country.
