NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Oh yeah, it could happen in the future if the NFL can find a way to expand into China, but let’s talk about other things for a while, before we trade Peyton.

Today was the fourth of July and the celebrating was going on everywhere. While driving back from my Mom’s house late at night, you could see fireworks going off in every direction.

It may have been forgotten why we were shooting off fireworks to celebrate the 4th, but most people would remember that the Chinese invented fireworks.

In Hong Kong on the 1st of July, they celebrated the 10th year under Chinese rule and they went crazy celebrating. In spite of our misgivings when Hong Kong was handed over to China, it has turned out very well. Why is that?

Well, China has turned capitalist in so many ways, when all of us expected Hong Kong to turn to communism. So why is that important?

China has become a huge market and a possible market for the NFL.

The NFL is a business and as much as we would like it to be a sport first and a business later, it is a business first. The league owners want to make money and never forget that. Like any business, it needs to grow and grow. China presents itself as a huge untapped market.

Things like this take time and while the NFL dreams of a Chinese team playing a Korean team and so on, it will be years before there is enough of a following to develop sponsors and really get the game going.

So Peyton will most likely retire before playing for that team in China.

Actually the NFL is working on developing the language of football for China right now.

For the record, in Chinese the game is known as “Mei shi gan lan qiu,” which can mean “American-style rugby” or “American-style olive-shaped ball,” depending on the translation.

A touchdown is a “da zhen.”

The quarterback is the “si fen wei” — the one-fourth position. source

So keep in mind as Peyton, playing the one fourth position, drops back to throw the olive shaped ball for a da zhen, that China is a country of new found wealth and lots of international travelers that just may enjoy the game of football!

NFL Football Fan Question Does your cable pick up China?

As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.
