Wow, it’s March already. It feels like just yesterday that we were bombarded with the Holiday deluge of games. Thankfully, things haven’t slowed down too much since then, with the likes of Killzone 2, Street Fighter IV, and more. Read on for today’s headlines:

• Want Trophies in Metal Gear Solid 4? Konami hears you, but that doesn’t mean they will add them.
• Speaking of Trophies, starting tomorrow you’ll be able to show them off on PlayStation.Com.
• If you were hoping for a patch to fix the controls in Killzone 2, don’t hold your breath. Guerilla likes them that way.
• Tenchu: Shadow Assassins will be hitting the PSP later this month.

Today in PlayStation: March 2, 2009

Well, it’s certainly a slow new day out there today, but hat’s something that should be alleviated by this afternoon’s PlayStation Store. While there hasn’t been any official announcement, I still have my fingers crossed that Puzzle Quest Galactrix will be available today, if not, well I’ll just continue my addiction to Challenge of the Warlords. Check out today’s headlines:

• It’s not much, but we have a few details on the upcoming portable version of LittleBigPlanet. Unlike the console version, the new game won’t be developed by Media Molecule, but instead Sony’s Cambridge studio.
• Meanwhile the PS3 version is getting an upgrade for search functionality and a few new costumes based on Killzone 2, Heavenly Sword, and Buzz!
• A new space shooter, No Gravity: The Plague of Mind, is coming to the PSP as a downloadable title today.
• It’s far from confirmed, but an analyst has told Kotaku that a new PSP is on the way, this time with out a UMD drive.

Today in PlayStation: February 26, 2009

February 27 is almost upon us, which means that the biggest PS3 game of the year so far will be released. Of course, I’m talking about Killzone 2. The dark first-person shooter has been a long time coming, having been originally announced back in 2005. And while we won’t be getting our hands on it until later this week, the early reviews have already started pouring in. So let’s take a look at what those lucky folks who got to play the game early thought.

Wired- Killzone 2 performs a lot of the same old tricks as other console shooters, but it does them right, and it does them with noticeable style. The well-paced tactical combat and strong narrative make for an enthralling single-player campaign, while the varied multiplayer modes provide depth that will entertain PlayStation 3 fans for quite some time.

MTV Multiplayer- A year from now few will discuss how this game played: smoothly, heavily, with lumbering guns and uncommonly helpful allies. A year from now people will still discuss the graphics: how good they do look…Killzone 2 is first at nothing but among the best in its stab at many familiar setpieces and technical achievements. Its bridge level is better. Its train level is better. Its graphics are better. Its enemies are better. It’s a good game in a crowded genre.

Joystiq- …What it lacks in bionic arms and guns that shoot portals, Killzone 2 makes up for with expertly refined shooting action that’s likely to shame most of the genre’s titles you’ll put in your console this year…Sure, Killzone 2 may be short on gameplay glitz, but it’s undeniably rewarding and fun. And isn’t that why we play games in the first place?

CVG- As well as the audiovisual splendour that gives you the feeling of being in a real war, the almost constant company of AI-controlled team mates makes the game’s events feel important…For the stunning single-player campaign alone this is a game worth getting very excited about. Killzone 2 is the loudest blockbuster on PS3 and the first must-have FPS of 2009 for PS3 fans.

GameDaily- Its single player campaign, however flawed, makes other shooters look tame, while surprisingly deep and addictive multiplayer modes will keep you fragging until you pass out from exhaustion…We’ll always remember Killzone 2 for its superb visuals and adrenaline-fueled battles. It’s far from innovative as other games feature superior narratives and better multiplayer modes, but it’s still an edge of your seat and bullet riddled extravaganza that begs to be experienced by anyone with a PS3.

Review Round-Up: Killzone 2

For those of you suffering from a case of the Monday’s, we have some great news as Sony is releasing a demo for one of the years biggest games today, instead of the usual Thursday. Read on to find out which game (if you couldn’t figure it out from the picture above) and to check out the rest of today’s headlines:

• The demo for Resident Evil 5 is hitting the PlayStation Network later today, expect some impressions once we get our hands on it.
• Some recent reports suggest that the PSP race WipEout Pulse is heading to the PS2.
• The downloadable title Under Siege has been given a release window, and will be coming out this Fall. Head here for a new batch of screens.
• For those of you who pre-ordered Killzone 2 (or live in Europe), the demo is going to be available on the PSN this Thursday.

Today In PlayStation: February 2, 2009

In typical Friday fashion, there isn’t much in the way of new, interesting gaming news. But hey, there’s nothing wrong with taking a day to actually play games instead of read about them. But here are the headlines for today anyways:

• Gamers in the UK will finally get a chance to play some Brit-themed BUZZ!, with a brand new trivia game aimed specifically at out friends across the pond.
• A new Need For Speed should be hitting the PS3 later this year, as EA has announced the all new NFS: Shift. The game will be much more “arcadey” compared to previous incarnations, instead focus on more realistic racing.
• Though everyone expects Killzone 2 to be a huge hit, Sony Europe is backing the game with a huge advertising budget in that territory.
• Fans of LittleBigPlanet will get a kick out of this: possibly the best calendar ever created.

It’s another slow news day, but to be honest I’m too busy playing Skate 2 to really notice. I should be following up my impressions post with a full review sometime next week, so keep your eyes peeled for that. But anyway, here are the top PlayStation stories of the day:

• To celebrate the new U.S. President, BUZZ! TV Quiz is offering up some new downloadable questions around the theme of American culture.
• If you just can’t wait, the opening cut scene for Killzone 2 is now available online.
• Atlus is bringing yet another Japanese title to North America, with the PSP dungeon crawler Class of Heroes.
• Red Alert 3 on the PS3 has been given a release date, and will be hitting the console sometime in March.
• The iPhone tower defense game Crystal Defenders is coming to the PS3 in some form, though we’re still a little light on details.

While the biggest news of the day is clearly the inauguration of the new American President Barack Obama, there is also this little nugget that is sure to be missed. Future publishing, the company behind sites and mags like Edge, GamesRadar, and CVG has launched a new dating site for gamers. Seriously. So head over to Game-4-a-date in order to meet that special someone and then drop them with a headshot in Resistance 2. Here are today’s headlines:

• Both the PSP and PS3 will be getting firmware updates, with the PS3 receiving a bunch of new photo displaying options.
• While many have scoffed at the PS3s slow start, one analyst is suggesting that Sony’s 10 year plan may actually be a good idea.
• Sony has purchased a new studio, with Octopi joining the team under the new label SOE Tuscon.
• Gamers in the UK without a PS3 can look forward to a new bundlethat will come with the hotly anticipated Killzone 2.
• For some strange reason, Outrun Online Arcade will be hitting the PlayStation Network in all territories except North America.

Today in PlayStation: January 20, 2009

Today brings with it some news of demos, new game releases, a fancy new PS3, and some great new screens from a pair of high profile games. SO let’s not waste any time and head straight into the headlines.

• A special, limited edition (only 10,000 will be released) ceramic white, Yakuza 3 PS3 is being released in Japan. If you want one, get ready to pay some extremely high eBay fees in the near future.
• Board game fans are in luck, as EA is bringing the classic word game Scrabble to the PSP in March.
• If you want to get early access to the Killzone 2 demo, it looks like you will have to pre-order the game from GameStop. Otherwise, the demo will be released alongside the game on February 27.
• According to Sony, PS3 sales increased by an impressive 130% over the holiday season.
• Though it had been forgotten by many, it looks like the shooter WET hasn’t dried up yet, as evidenced by this new batch of screenshots.
• Speaking of screenshots, some new images of the ever-elusive Final Fantasy XIII have popped up. Now we just need a release date.

Today in PlayStation: January 6, 2009

Finally, it feels good to be back on a regular work schedule. Unfortunately, today is bit dry when it comes to juicy PlayStation news. But the good news is that early reports are suggesting that Killzone 2 may actually be as good as advertised. Of course, it’s tough to trust a first review, but it’s still a good sign.

• If you’re a fan of Traveller’s Tales LEGO series of games you may be in luck, as rumors are swirling about both Harry Potter and Rock Band themed games in the series.
• Looking for new, old-school theme for your PS3? Check out this hella awesome, unofficial HD Gunstar Heroes wallpaper and icons.
• In somewhat more depressing news, reports are suggesting that Sony will be making major cutbacks next month, which could potentially effect its game division.
• While we still don’t know what it is, Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima has revealed that his next project will have a more “Western” focus.
• The first review of the much anticipated Killzone 2 has been published, with Official US PlayStation magazine giving it a perfect 5/5.

We’re back! After what feels like a lengthy holiday break, the PSM is back in business, ready to give you everything you need to know about the world of PlayStation. Hopefully everyone’s break was full of fun and games, as mine was spent split between eating lots of turkey, playing lots of Fallout 3 and Persona 4, and catching up on season 4 of Lost. Here’s the first batch of headlines for 2009:

• if you loved PixelJunk Racers, Monsters, or Eden, get ready, as Q-Games is preparing “2 or 3″ new PJ games for 2009.
• In more Killzone 2 pre-order news, those who pre-purchase the game at GameStop will get a demo of the game, while Best Buy is offering an exclusive PS3 theme.
• Meanwhile, anyone who pre-orders the PSP title Resistance: Retribution at Amazon will get an exclusive demo.
• A demo for Lord of the Rings: Conquest is now available on the PlayStation Network.
• It turns out that a number of companies, Microsoft included, are using Home as a place to hold virtual meetings.
