I got up early, 6:00 AM which you know is hard for me, got ready and headed down to the CHUM station at Pandora and Broad.  Handy tip, when you need to be ready to be on air at 7:30, parking is free until 9 AM!

I was ushered into the station/broadcast area (good security in fact) and came into the broadcast booth area as the news was coming on (I had been listening in the car).

I was there rather early, I’ve learned it pays to do this.  Robin and Frankie are cool folks and Robin had her laptop set up already (she checks ferry stuff online as well as email).

We chatted about stuff while the music was on, like Frankie setting up his Linksys router–don’t use the CD if you already know what you’re doing–and the blogosphere in general.

I went on air a little after 7:30.  Nerves?  Nope.  Not a problem.  I love doing live stuff so no fear there.

Robin and I did the setup on Wordpress.com while Frankie asked a few questions along the way.  Props to the WP.com guys, it went smoothly.  Okay we had some issues uploading a picture but I’m sure we can figure it out.  There are some bits of text and such in the boxes that are just not visible enough (gray text on black).

Robin got right into the thick of things and got the requisite first post up and deleted the “Hello World” post (whew).

What’s next for them?  Tweaking, widgets (MyBlogLog for one), maybe even, gasp, RSS and Twitter!

I have to say that I had a real blast.  It’s fun doing radio stuff and I’d happily do it again.

107.3 Kool FM Kool Mornings morning show joins the blogosphere, live and on the air

Morning radio shows should have blogs don’t you think?  There are always funny stories, community projects, contests, something to talk about.  Well the morning show I listen to on 107.3 Kool FM here in Victoria doesn’t have one so, I sent Robin Farrell this email yesterday morning:

BTW … why don’t you guys have a morning show blog, huh?  I dare you.  I double dog dare you.  Not only that,  I’ll come in Monday morning and help you set it up on air and show you how to use it!  Come on, you’re not scared are ya ;-)?

Wouldn’t you know it, they went for it!  So Monday morning at 7:30 I’m going help them set up the blog.  I’m going to use Wordpress.com, of course–that cool with you Lloyd, Toni, and Matt?  Yeah thought so.

Anyway, no URL yet.  We’ll work on that on Monday.  You can listen live through the website.

Now Buzz Bishop and JackFM won’t be the only DJs with a hot blog.
