Timothy Peters didn't come eighteenth in the Kroger 200

Peters showed true emotion after his win and let out a long breath of air after he exited the car. He has had a long and frustrating road getting to this point but he can take a deep breath and prepare for the only thing harder than winning your first Camping World Truck Series race, winning another one. He has definitely reached a page turning point in his NASCAR career and can relax and try to reproduce his win, now that he has gotten himself off the bubble. Winning additional races probably isn’t going to be any easier now that he has been victories in a Camping World Truck Series race, but at least he can say he has won a race, which isn’t something many drivers can say.

Todd Bodine finished second in the Kroger 200, while Colin Braun had a good day and finished third, and Ron Hornaday came in fourth in his Chevrolet. Kevin Harvick had a fast car all day and finished fifth, Denny Hamlin finished sixth, Dennis Setzer seventh, David Starr eighth, Matt Crafton ninth, while Terry Cook rounded out the top ten.

Timothy Peters Wins the Kroger 200

They weren’t disappointed as Carl Edwards passed Kyle Busch on Lap 179 and then put his foot down and never looked back until he crossed the finish line. The race didn’t start as well for Edwards, who had to start from the rear of the grid because he wasn’t able to make qualifying due to participation in a practice session for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race. This didn’t seem to matter, his car was still the fastest car, and he was able to quickly make up the difference to take the lead. In fact, Edwards was able to take the lead twice and led for a total of 72 of the scheduled 200 laps in the Nationwide Series Kroger 200. He originally lost the lead on Lap 170 due to a mistake in pit row that allowed Busch to take the lead under caution. Busch was in the lead as the cars ran toward a green flag on Lap 174, but Edwards used his driving skill and faster car to take the lead on Lap 179, and then went on to take the win.

Kyle Busch did finish second, the eighth consecutive time he has finished first or second in a Nationwide Series race, one less than the current record holder Jack Ingram’s record set in 1983. Busch currently leads Edwards by 192 points on the Nationwide Series standings with just 15 races remaining in the schedule. Matt Kenseth finished third, Brad Keselowski had another good showing in a race by finishing fourth, and Steve Wallace was fifth, while Ron Hornaday moved from trucks for this race and took sixth. Pole-sitter Trevor Bayne was able to hang on for seventh, Jason Leffler took eighth, and Scott Wimmer was ninth, while Kenny Wallace rounded out the top ten in the Kroger 200.

Carl Edwards Wins the Kroger 200

Earlier in the week NASCAR implimented new rules restricting the horsepower output in the Nationwide Series engines, specifically targeting Toyota, as they were the only manufacturer running the effected engine packages. But, even that couldn’t stop Kyle Busch from dominating Saturday night at O’Reilly Raceway Park.

Busch started the race from the outside pole, and then ran away with the race, leading 197 of the 200 laps. The victory is Busch’s sixth NNS win of the season, and his 15th between NASCAR’s three premier series, surpassing the previous record set by Kevin Harvick. Colin Braun, in search of his first NASCAR victory for Roush-Fenway Racing, settled for 2nd, and Mike Bliss, Scott Wimmer, and Josh Wise completed the top-five.

Following the race, Busch sarcastically commented, “I was kind of disappointed because I feel like that 15 horsepower cost me the pole. I really got to thank my competitors for doing the complaining they did, because we were able to have good traction control all night long. I feel like that was important, to get off the corners a little bit better than everybody.”

Rookies Landon Cassill and Joey Logano continued to impress, as they finished 7th and 8th, respectively. Series points leader, Clint Bowyer, found his struggles throughout the evening, as he finished 18th. Second place, Brad Keselowski, didn’t do any better, though, and he finished 19th. Third place, Carl Edwards, made up a little bit of ground with his 11th place finish. There were no changes with the top-ten in points, though.
