Bill Laimbeer and Reggie Theus to Minnesota

Kurt Rambis, the new head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, got two new assistant coaches on Sunday — Bill Laimbeer and Reggie Theus. Both Laimbeer and Theus have professional head coaching experience.
Laimbeer’s coaching experience came in the WNBA. In June, he stepped down as the general manager and head coach of the Detroit Shock. While with the Shock, Laimbeer led the team to three WNBA championships. When he left the Shock, he said he wanted to coach in the NBA — and now he’s gotten his wish.

Kurt Rambis Hired by the Timberwolves

Kurt Rambis will soon officially become the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. As we speculated last week, he’s been the leading candidate for the head coaching position for a while. Rambis’ deal will reportedly be worth more than $8 million over the next four seasons.
Rambis was a head coach in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers a stint during the 1999 lockout-shortened season. While it has been reported that Rambis would eventually take over the reins from Phil Jackson in Los Angeles where he’s been serving as an assistant coach, Rambis apparently didn’t want to wait any longer.

Who Will be the Next Coach in Minnesota?

The Minnesota Timberwolves are taking their time selecting their next head coach. According to sources, Minnesota has narrowed the field to Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis, NBA television analyst Mark Jackson and Houston Rockets assistant coach Elston Turner.
Many insiders believe that Rambis is the first option. If Rambis is offered a contract that meets his demands, he’s expected to be the next coach of the Timberwolves. If not, Jackson is expected to be the next in line.
