With Football season right around the corner, we here at Dejuiced! have decided to take a look at the coaches in the NFL and college football to see how well the fans approve of them. Today we look at Norv Turner.

Dallas Cowboys v San Diego Chargers

Norv Turner is the head coach of the San Diego Chargers. The man who took over the reigns after Marty Schottenheimer and his 14-2 regular season record. But hey Marty, if you can’t win the big game 14-2 means nothing. But we aren’t here to discuss you. Back to Norv.

He started the season off on a slow start with the Chargers but ended the regular season at 11-5. The Chargers then beat the Tennessee Titans and the defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts on the road. But then lost in the AFC championship game to the then undefeated New England Patriots. Not bad for his first year, right? Let’s just see if he can repeat.

ESPYs already given out

ESPN held the EPSYs last night in Los Angeles with Justin Timberlake as the host. Today - ESPN listed all of the award winners on their site. The only problem? The ESPYs won’t air until Sunday night. So it takes away from the mystery of which athlete will win.

I’m not a fan of taping award shows, however live television rarely happens anymore - thanks to ESPY host J.T. and Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction. It’s not the only reason, though. I remember an MTV award show where a Rage Against the Machine band member staged a protest on stage, by perching himself on part of the background set.

Nevertheless - you and I will have to wait until Sunday to watch the ESPYs. However, if you want to know the winners - I can give you those. I won’t be looking - but if you must know, here it is.

“My Quick Smells Like French Toast”

Just like the Super Bowl, or any event that involves watching a ridiculous amount of television, the commercials have become an integral part of the March Madness experience. Perhaps even more so for March Madness. It isn’t just one event, it’s a series of weekends where one watches the same channel constantly, watching the same ads over and over again. Usually this just creates an irrational amount of hate. (Applebee’s ad campaigns tend to get the majority of my hate. Those Applebee guys are enfuriating. Thank goodness I haven’t seen much of the Applebee’s Apple this year.) All those awful, constantly repeated ads makes the viewer really appreciate the quality commercials, though. This year there’s two standouts, the triumphant continuation of Bud Light’s critically acclaimed “Dude” series. Plus, the new ads for Nike’s Sparq Training. The 30-second spot features various athletes (from famous pros to anonymous kids) generally talking trash, mostly as variants on the theme “my better is better than your better.” It’s an effective, if not sublime ad, until Ladanian Tomlinson utters what I hope becomes the catch-phrase of the summer: “My quick smells like French Toast.” Glory be. I agree with Pete Carroll, that is wonderfully absurd. I’ve never heard anything like that before. Has this saying been around for awhile? I need more info about how one’s quick smells like French Toast. And what exactly does smelling delicious have to do with being fast? The 30-second spot is below. The minute-long version, which features a “List of Demands” by Saul Williams but no French Toast, is here.
