I mentioned about a month ago, that Lindsay Davenport may miss the 2009 Australian Open because of a knee injury. Boy was I wrong! Yes, she is going to miss it, but because she is expecting her second child. Congratulations Lindsay!
Lindsay and her husband Jonathan Leach have announced that they are expecting their second child sometime next year. Lindsay and Jonathan have an 18 month old named Jagger Jonathan (pictured above).
Lindsay is said to be “thrilled” even though she said, “this unexpected but exciting surprise now means I will be putting tennis on hold for the foreseeable future.”

Lindsay Davenport, who is still troubled by a knee injury, may not be making the trip to Melbourne in January 2009 for the Australian Open. In fact, it’s being said that she may not play again professionally at all.
Davenport’s knee injury caused her to withdraw from several 2008 tournaments. In 2007, after the birth of her first child, she made a comeback and won four Sony Ericsson WTA Tour titles.
That makes me sad because I love watching Davenport play. I wish her all the best in whatever she decides and wherever life takes her …read more
Davenport Withdraws from Wimbledon
This probably doesn’t come as a big surprise to anyone, but Lindsay Davenport withdrew from Wimbledon earlier today with a knee injury.
The 32-year-old American withdrew from the warm-up Eastbourne tournament earlier this month. She also sat out the clay court season. Who would have thought two months without competitive tennis would cause issues later? Hmmm.
Here are my thoughts: Davenport is done. She did a remarkable job earlier this year. She played well, she played hard, she beat some good players. But LD just doesn’t have the stamina, the ability to stay healthy or the game anymore to last two …read more
Davenport and Roddick not playing the French Open
A big name and a used-to-be big name have already gone on record saying they won’t be competing at the French Open. Lindsay Davenport and Andy Roddick are scratches for the Grand Slam that begins Sunday.
Roddick withdrew earlier this week with a right shoulder injury. He exited the Rome Masters 10 days ago with that injury and skipped Hamburg as well.
Davenport only cited “personal reasons” for her premature exit from the only Grand Slam singles title she hasn’t won.
I know I’ve said it before, but I can’t wait until the day I can call up my boss and tell …read more
Davenport withdraws from tournament
I played tennis yesterday. The weather was glorious and my tennis game…sucked. I realize I haven’t played in almost a year. That doesn’t do wonders for tennis skills.
There were moments of brilliance. A wicked cross-court backhand winner. A low bouncing forehand down the line. But they were fleeting – oh so fleeting. Obviously I have a few things to work on and now that the sun is finally out, maybe I can get out more often.
In other news, Lindsay Davenport withdrew from the Bausch & Lomb Championships due to fever and aches. She was scheduled to play Maria Sharapova …read more
Sharapova Survives Scare at Bausch & Lomb Championships
It wasn’t pretty and it certainly wasn’t short but Maria Sharapova managed to eke through a tough third round at the Bausch & Lomb Championships against Anabel Medina Garrigues.
Three set and three and a half hours later, Sharapova had survived a clay court test. It was just the thing she had been looking for – and probably needing – but it almost had a different outcome than she wanted.
Sharapova won the first set 7-6(3), lost the second 5-7 and then won the third 7-6(1). A lot of close sets for something that could have had the same outcome in …read more
Tsonga Out of Davis Cup with Injury
The question of who would represent France in the Davis Cup quarterfinal series with the United States was answered on its own when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga withdrew with a right knee injury.
Tsonga will be replaced with Arnaud Clement – whoever that is. Richard Gasquet, Paul Henri-Mathieu and Michael Llodra. And the United States will be represented by the Fixed Four – Andy Roddick, James Blake and Bob and Mike Bryan.
Otherwise, not a whole lot is happening in the tennis world. I mean – Venus withdrew from the Family Circle Cup because of illness and Lindsay Davenport is rolling at Amelia Island …read more
Davenport blows by Ivanovic
I suppose the biggest news today is that Lindsay Davenport rolled Ana Ivanovic in straight sets in Miami today.
I don’t sound incredibly enthusiastic about that, do I? Let me try again.
Storming back from mommy-hood, Lindsay Davenport put on a stunning display of tennis in her straight-set win over world number two Ana Ivanovic…amazing!
Hmm – yeah – not really my style.
Also moving on in the women’s draw was top-ranked Justine Henin, Venus Williams, Jelena Jankovic, Serena Williams and Svetlana Kuznetsova. And it’s also hot in Miami. I’m a little jealous considering it’s still snowing in the Pacific Northwest.
Top of the Crop
There has been some ups and downs to start this first quarter of the 2008 season. Probably the one that sticks out the most is Roger Federer’s decline. Well – maybe not decline – how about the narrowing of the gap between him and the minions chasing him? But for today, I’d like to put a positive spin on this post and talk about the players who have really stepped it up in the first two-ish months of the season: the top of the crop. (They’re not in any particular order because, as we all know, I’m very sensitive to …read more
Davenport wins in Memphis after 17-year hiatus
Seventeen years ago, Lindsay Davenport was a 15-year-old kid with something to prove. She won both the singles and doubles title in the clay court championships. Now Davenport is a 31-year-old mom with something to prove. She’s just got more experience and a better head on her shoulders, and she won both the singles and doubles titles on the indoor hard courts at the Cellular South Cup in her return to Memphis.
Davenport blistered through a short hour match-up with Olga Govortsova to win her 55th singles crown of her career. Shortly after that victory, Davenport took the court with teammate …read more
