Maria Sharapova Wins Tokyo Title

It might not have been the glamorous victory that she wanted but after opponent Jelena Jankovic bowed out due to an arm injury, Maria Sharapova captured the title at the $2 million Pan Pacific Open. She won the event back in 2005.
It’s not like she was given the win, though. She was already ahead 5-2 in the first set when the match was abruptly halted by Jankovic. This is the first time Sharapova has won a title since Amelia Island in April 2008 since she was forced to take 10 months off due to a shoulder injury.

Sharapova Rained Out at Aegon Classic

It was a rain-soaked day for the women at the Aegon Classic with the downpour actually stopping the match between Maria Sharapova and Alexa Glatch. It was unfortunate for Sharapova, who is playing in just her third tournament since being sidelined for almost a year with a shoulder injury, since she twice held match point but was unable to close. The younger Glatch definitely was holding her own on the court and it would have been great if the ladies had been able to finish.
