Detroit Lions to Select Matthew Stafford

Although the 2009 NFL Draft doesn’t begin until Saturday, the Detroit Lions already know who they will be selecting. Matthew Stafford, the quarterback out of Georgia, will be the number one pick of the draft and will receive a contract worth $72 million over six seasons. The two sides agreed to a contract on Friday night.
Out of the $72 million, about $42 million of the money is guaranteed. According to various reports, there is also $6 million in additional incentives over the life of the contract.

2009 NFL Draft – Mock Draft

The 2009 NFL Draft takes place on April 25th and April 26th. Although there is a lot that can change between now and the draft, here’s a look at our 2009 NFL mock draft:
1) Detroit Lions – Matthew Stafford, Georgia (Quarterback)
The Lions seem to be eyeing Stafford as their pick. However, they also want to agree to a contract with him before the draft. If that doesn’t happen, Detroit appears likely to move on.
2) St. Louis Rams – Jason Smith, Baylor (Offensive Tackle)

Stafford Among Players Invited to NFL Draft

According to various reports, the NFL has invited a total of ten players to attend the 2009 NFL Draft. Among the players invited is quarterback Matthew Stafford, the player many experts believe will end up being the first overall pick by the Detroit Lions.
The number of players invited is an increase over previous seasons. Typically, the number of players invited is capped at around six. The NFL has decided to change its policy to bring more excitement to the 2009 NFL Draft, which will be held April 25th and April 26th.

49ers Don’t Want QB Because of Divorce

The 49ers have decided that they don’t want to draft quarterback Matthew Stafford because he didn’t want to open up about his parent’s divorce. Stafford was asked about the divorce when talking to the team psychologist.
I have no idea what this would have to do with football. Seriously, do you think other teams are going to use this as some kind of defensive strategy? I can just see it now. Stafford goes back to throw, has a man open, and someone yells, “Your mama is a divorced ‘ho!” and the ball goes completely out of bounds.
