Power Outage: When Spotters Are Necessary

The streak is dead.  I had increased my max bench press for the last 3 workouts, but I pushed my luck today with a late workout and came up short on 307 lbs.  I could have gone for 302, but I didn’t feel like adding the ultra tiny 2.5 lb plates to each end of the bar.  Plus, I’m usually one to go for the gold rather than play it conservative when it comes to weight lifting.
Fortunately, I had a spotter to help me out once the bar got stuck two inches off my chest.  Anytime you think you might …read more

Trick Your Muscles into a Bigger Max

I’ve teased you the last few blogs about pasting down my new bench workout.  Without further delay, here is the bench workout I just completed one round of.
Day 1: Light Day
First take half of your regular bench max weight and load it up.  You will not need to change the weight.  You’re going to lift this weight 9 sets of 3.  That’s right, just 3 reps.  The first catch is you must burst through these reps as fast as possible.  The second is that each set you will rotate your hand position.  Go inside grip, then medium grip, then outside …read more

How Much Should You Be Max Bench Pressing?

I found a very cool bench press tool today while looking for something different to add to the blog. If you click bench press chart, you can see what you’re expected max is for the number of reps you can do at a given weight.
My max bench press is horrible based on the number of repetitions I can do at certain weights.  For example, as I’ve mentioned at one point I did 265 3×8 – no breaks, no arched back, nothing.  If you give me 10 reps for 1 set, then that chart would give me a 345 lb …read more

Looking Up at Heavy Weight Goals

Let’s say you’re max bench press right now is 165 and you want to reach 230.  Obviously the difference between the two weights is drastic, but if you are true to your workout and have the physical ability (which I believe the overwhelming majority do) then you can reach 230.
My philosophy is lifting heavy weight is all about getting acclimated to more and more weight.  In a sense, you just get used to lifting heavier weights.  I advocate this mindset to you, my readers, because it’s 100% true but it is more nonchalant in its nature making it not seem …read more

A post where I don’t write about Sam or Max

JUST KIDDING. HAHAHAH!
I had you going with the title of the post, didn’t I? Have you heard enough stuff about Sam and Max yet? Well, with it’s upcoming release, there’s a lot of news with it…
And there’s a lot of screenshots, now, too! That’s awesome.
So, just for you, I went over to Adventure Gamers and found a whole bunch of screen designs from the new Sam and Max game. You won’t see the wacky rabbit or the pissed off dog in these shots, because they’re just showing off the wonderful background art they did …read more

Some Sam and Max stuff

According to my favoriest site EVER, The International House of Mojo, 1Up has released their online version of Computer Gaming World. You know the one I’m talking about… the on that has Sam and Max on the cover? The one that has the 8 page Sam and Max article? The one with flying monkeys that come flying out of the screen at you when you read it for the first time?
YEAH! That one!

Now, I didn’t want to pay the $7.99 for the online version of the magazine (Umm… $7.99 for an online magazine? That seems …read more

Sam and Max… coming to a magazine near you…

Telltale has announced that Sam and Max will be gracing the cover of Computer Gaming World with a gigantic like… 2 million page article. 2 MILLION PAGES?! That’s a lot!
Actually, it’s more like 9 pages… but that’s still a lot, dangit!
Now, this is the first big and gigantic press that the new season of Sam and Max has gotten, so it sounds like TellTale is pretty stoked about how things went with Computer Gaming World. The more people that are interested, the better, I think.
With the way the Adventure Gaming genre is going, any press …read more
